TAAS is proud to inform all that our members have successfully completed a 15-day ‘On the Job Training’ (OJT) for 66 students who are pursuing Tourism course in Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College, Tadong in Gangtok.
Being the apex body of tour operators and travel agents, it is also our responsibility to sensitize the coming generation on sustainable tourism, its benefits and potential as a livelihood option, and ethical tourism practices. We are pleased that we could imbibe tourism interest among these students through the OJT initiative from April 5 to April 20.
These students were attached with our travel agents along with the STDC and Tourism Information Office. They were taught on how to organise and operate tours, making permits for taking tourists to restricted and protected areas, the role of a tourist guide, and other practical aspects of tourism.
Special classes were held for these students at our TAAS training institute where top tourism entrepreneurs shared their experience and knowledge. Focus was also given on different types of tourism products like pilgrimage tourism, adventure tourism and homestays.
The training was well received by the students who were enthusiastic to learn more. We look forward to see them continue with their tourism interest and in coming years, they also embrace the tourism sector for becoming self-reliant and contribute to the growth of our tourism industry in Sikkim.
I thank all our members who gave their valuable time to interact and teach the tourism students. Their efforts will surely bring good results in near future.
