ADVISORY FOR NORTH SIKKIM TOUR

Whereas, as per Vehicular Traffic Order (U/s 34 (b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005), the District Collector, Mangan District has issued directions for movement of vehicles along the Mangan-Chungthang road. Herein, vehicle movement has been allowed, with one-way and timing restrictions as well as with applicable permits, upwards from Mangan to Chungthang via Toong-Naga for only light vehicles (except between 11 am to 4 pm at the Toong-Naga stretch for facilitating ongoing road restoration works by GREF); and movement of vehicles downwards from Chungthang to Mangan / Gangtok via Ship-Gyer, Sangkalang and Phidang Bridge.
Now therefore, in this regard, the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation hereby issues the following advisory:
1. That, tourists travelling from Gangtok to Mangan District can obtain their passes from the 3rd Mile Police Checkpost at Gangtok a day prior in order to enable them to reach Toong-Naga before 11 am, while those procuring passes from SDM, Mangan are to acquire the same a day prior or by 09:30 am on the day of travel; and
2. That, it is also advised that commuters use 4X4 vehicles / SUVs with high road clearance and fitted with all-terrain tyres on the said route especially along the Toong-Naga road stretch.
