Title: Exploring the Majestic Sambar Deer: Kanha National Park's Horned Wonders

Nestled in the heart of India lies Kanha National Park, a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Among the myriad of species that call this pristine wilderness home, the Sambar deer stands out as a true symbol of grace and resilience.

With its magnificent antlers adorning its head like a crown, the Sambar deer commands attention as it roams the lush forests of Kanha. These majestic creatures are the largest deer species found in India, and spotting them in their natural habitat is a truly awe-inspiring experience.

Known for their distinctive vocalizations, Sambar deer are often heard bellowing deep into the forest, adding to the mystical ambiance of Kanha. These calls serve not only as a means of communication but also as a warning to potential predators, signaling their presence and asserting their dominance in the ecosystem.

As herbivores, Sambar deer play a crucial role in maintaining the delicate balance of Kanha's ecosystem. Feeding on a variety of vegetation, they help regulate plant growth and contribute to the overall health of the forest. Additionally, they serve as prey for carnivores such as tigers and leopards, thus forming an integral part of the park's intricate food web.

While their large size and impressive antlers may evoke a sense of power and strength, Sambar deer are also vulnerable to various threats, including habitat loss and poaching. Conservation efforts in Kanha National Park are vital to ensuring the continued survival of these magnificent creatures for generations to come.

Elephant Safari in Kanha National Park: Some years back a major attraction in Indian National Park was elephant back safari. It was a good way of sighting the big cat and other fauna. Taking into consideration animal cruelty, a very positive step was taken to discontinue with elephant safari in Kanha. The best option now to experience this central india highland is safari on 4WD vehicles and on foot. Forest department time to time organises elephant interaction sessions for visitors to interact with the intelligent mammals. The elephant are now used for forest patrol by guards.
In this picture, we saw two elephants during morning jungle safari in kanha National Park. The elephants were being used by guards to look after a tranquilizer tigress recovering from her injuries after a fight. We waited for few hours for her to come out, which she did but leaving her kids behind in the meadow.

Walks in the Buffer Forest can be very engaging. We promote walks as a part of slow travel.
These pugmarks were 1-2 days old near a water body near the lake. The area is marked as the territory of a tigress. She passes from there not regularly but surely. The marks were not going to the water body. Therefore, this should be a trail she uses to communicate. We have placed a trap camera to monitor this movement and will follow up for updates.
