Posted • 22,000ft Machapuchare or the ‘Fish Tail’ rising high above Pokhara, Nepal. This iconic peak within the Annapurna massif has never been ‘officially’ climbed, as it is considered the sacred home of Lord Shiva. A British expedition in the 1950’s turned back 500m from the summit to honour the sacred summit. It is rumoured that in the early 80’s NZ climber Bill Denz made a solo summit, being the only person to have possibly stood, very illegally, on top. Denz passed away in a Himalayan avalanche in 1983, leaving the rumour forever unconfirmed.
