A Ladakhi version of the famous 'Cherry Blossom', the 'Apricot Blossom Festival' is celebrated in the month of April, when the Apricot flowers blossom covering the landscape in a shade of white and pink. Locally known as chuli, Ladakh is home to some of the sweetest apricots in the world - a variety known as Raktsey Karpo. Though the locals have been consuming this variety of apricots since ages, it was only in 2013 that researchers discovered that the Rakstey Karpo varietal is unique only to Ladakh.

It is generally believed that summer is the best time to visit Ladakh. It definitely is, as you get to experience Ladakh in all its glory - green valleys, warm weather, and blue skies. But we at un[travel] believe that the short Autumn and Spring season is the best that Ladakh has to offer. The one month window between mid of March to mid of April is when summer is setting in the valley, and apricot trees blossom in anticipation of the warmth. It is our own "cherry blossom" which hardly anyone knows about.
