A sacred Hike to a century-old Gompa (monastery), somewhere in Arunachal Pradesh.
Let's talk about Rituals. We weren't avid ritual-followers, but this journey challenged our beliefs and opened our hearts to something extraordinary.

Hiking at 12,000 feet, in a cold gloomy mountain weather was something worth looking forward to. However, before we set foot on the sacred path, our local team member gave us strict instructions: no meat, egg, cigarette, alcohol, onions, or garlic, and we had to bathe in the freezing morning! It sounded daunting, but there was a reason behind it all.
This monastery hold centuries of significance for the Monpas, and people trekked from far-off villages to the sacred place seeking blessings.

Walking through the surreal views, passing unattended caves (used by monks to meditate) and quiet woods, we finally reached this small stone structure. The monastery was a perfect example of the old Indian architecture treasure - a rock cut monastery. We were greeted by wise old grannies caring for the sacred place. Their initial shock to our alien faces, soon subsided urging us to follow their ways of worship. Like eager novices, we absorbed their teachings, performing the Parikrama as they did when one of them looked at the sky and bowed down on the ground.
A hawk gracefully circled above us, the only sign of life we had seen apart from us and the swaying Rhododendrons while on the trail.
"Our lama who built this monastery said he will come in the form of a hawk to bless us.", she whispered to us with folded hands.
Was it mere coincidence or the result of following the rituals? We can't say for sure, but that entire experience touched us in a way beyond words and pictures. It was 'Sacred' in every sense of the word.
We choose not to disclose the name of the Monastery or share pictures from inside the gompa and caves. Our hope is that this sacred place remains untouched by tourist footfalls and retains its purity. Some places are meant to be revered, not just another spot on a travel checklist.
Tell us about your Sacred moment.

It was a sunny winter afternoon early in the year. We were basking the winter sun to the view of surrounding green hills in a Khasi village. Our cups were full of Sha Saw (Red Brewed Tea) and minds devoid of thoughts, a perfect lazy afternoon.

"You guys want to go to a secret spot?", prompted our local host.

"What is so secret about it?", asked one of us.

"A living root bridge. A rugged trail through the jungle..", replied our host.

"Let the trail spill the secret to us today then.", countered one of us.

An impromptu conversation on a lazy afternoon led us following the secret ancient Khasi trail to a hidden Living Root Bridge in Meghalaya. An hour and a half of trekking through the forest led us to an even better spot to just sit and NOT THINK.

Wonder what can ever end up being boring in Meghalaya?

'Paathshaala On Wheels', our travel project encouraging kids, to connect with nature, and learn from travels. A project to venture out to unknown far off places and experience the unheard cultures via travel. It is our effort to combine education with travel and weigh learnings on road as much as the lessons written in books. It takes the young buds from organised metropolitans to live and prosper in the rustic village life of India.

I still remember the life of a butterfly from the garden visit that we did in school. No diagram drawn in the books could have ever made me so mesmerised with nature as those few outdoor visits did. Why did it do so? Simply because outdoor learning creates a better environment for growth.

Stepping outdoors to experience what our books spoke about, made us more curious and more inclined towards knowing our interests. The need to introduce outdoor learnings of alien lands, terrain, food and culture to the kids of today is the most important subject that our obsolete syllabus and 'education system' lacks.

takes the kids out of the usual mundane routines to the far off places on a journey of outdoor learning and exploring their affair with nature. The travel is curated with a special emphasis on understanding unknown cultures, living with nature, overcoming fears and inhibitions, interacting with village life along with unique interactive sessions on each day and aspect.

Following series is on the learnings and experiences, Grade 5 kids from .school took away from their in Meghalaya.
