Today, lets learn a little bit about the lesser known, isolated Khatarshnong area hidden in the scenic landscape of East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya. With its one-of-a-kind unique culture and tradition practiced by the locals there, the Khatarshnong area should be in everyone's bucket list.
50 kms from capital city Shillong, the Khatarshnong area and the villages under it like Kongthong village, Mawmang village, Kshaid village, Krohiawhiar village, among others (the area is a conglomerate of 32 villages) follow a unique tradition of calling their children with a unique tune. This one-of-a-kind tune, the locals term it as "Jingrwai Iawbei".
An excellent location for trek lovers, the villages in the area has an abundance of natural beauty to offer its visitors, as seen in the deep canyons, the valleys and the rivers.
