Uttarakhand is the 26th state of the great country of India and is created by extracting two hilly divisions of Uttar Pradesh. These two divisions are Kumaon and Garhwal, which in Hindu legends have been referred to as the ‘Devbhoomi’ or the Land of God. Uttarakhand is also a part of western Himalayas. Dehradun is the state capital. The major religion of Uttarakhand is Hinduism.

Lying in the Himalayan region, Uttarakhand has a large area of its total landmass covered under forests. To be precise, nearly 63% of the state’s area is covered with forests! Because of this, numerous national parks and sanctuaries have come up in the state which provides an opportunity for tourists to explore the rich animal and plant life of the region with much greater ease. The most famous national parks of the state are the Jim Corbett National Park and the Nanda Devi National Park. The former is famous for its tigers while the latter is more renowned for the great Himalayan black bears.
