Bastar Land of Tribal

Bastar Land of Tribal We provide homestay and guiding services in rural areas in Bastar and the whole Chhattisgarh You have to pay for it. I have itinerary as given below.

I live in Kawali village in a traditional mud house at 20 kilometer towards south of Jagdalpur city. Jagdalpur city is an important place of Baster region in Chhattisgar state. My village is situated in the area of beautifully forested Kanger valley national park. This area is a home of tribes called Dhurwa, bahtra and Gond but it is affected a little from some kind of violent organization called

Naxalite. I can speak good enough English and guide you in the area which I know very well. I also can provide you basic accommodation in home or any other places including delicious vegetarian or non vegetarian food. You can walk, hire bicycle or motor cycle (with or without a driver) or a car. There is no bus from jagdalpur to my village Kawali, but you can hire an auto rickshaw in Rs. 400/- and reach Kawali. The distance is counted from Kawali village –
- visiting many tribal villages. More than 10 villages are situated within walking distance from Kawali.
- Watching and understanding local Agriculture and forest. The women of this area collect roots, leaves, fruits, spices, wild bamboo, ants for food, silk cocoons, medicines, minerals from the forest. Local economy is very normal. The people live a very simple life. You also can taste and enjoy the traditional food of this region.
- It also can be seen people making bamboo baskets and carpets, marriage custom and life stories etc.
- Watching religious activities, visiting colorful traditional weekly markets at village Nangur (Friday, 1 km), remote village Koleng (Saturday, 20 km trough the heart of Kanger valley national park), village Tokapal (Monday, 25km) and village Darbha (Wednesday, 30 km)
- C**k fighting at village Alnar (12 k.m.) almost every day in winter season.
- A day with Sagar family members, the bell metal craftsmen at Chilikuti village (6k.m.). You can contact them and can watch the unique technique of wax and clay in making Bell metal craft.
- To explore the Kanger valley national park, Tirathgarh waterfalls (25k.m.), Kutumsar village and caves (20k.m.), Kailash cave ( 13 k.m.) , dense forest trail and roads.
- Visiting Gupteshwar cave temple on Orrisa state border (35k.m., dense forest area having old and huge Teak wood trees, amazingly beautiful rivers hopping on huge granite boulders.
- If you prefer to stay in hotels or guest house rather than home stay, you can use jagdalpur city as a base camp or it will be better to stay in beautifully located rest house at village Netanar (7k.m. from Kawali and 30 k.m. from Jagdalpur), village Tiria (25k.m. from Kawali and 45 k.m. from Jagdalpur) or at Gupteshwar in Orrisa.
- you also can stay in remote villages like Milkul –wada or Koleng with my local friends. Please remember, it is ‘No English speaking land’ but it is the land to feel the amazing and interesting experience of life. You can contect directly by mail or phone :-

When I shifted from Kondagaon to Jagdalpur in 2002, I was very attracted to a mountain range, which the local people call Tulsi. Its distance from my homestay (Bastar Tribal Homestay) is about 57 km. And its height is 3914 feet above sea level.
Whenever I would see it, I would be left wondering when I would get a chance to go here.
Tulsi is considered to be the stronghold of Naxalites, newspapers continuously publish the news of encounter between police and Naxalites, many villages like Koleng, Mundagarh, Chandametta, Puspal, Bhadrimahu, villagers and soldiers became victims of this undeclared war.
Gradually the administration took care of this area and now there has been some improvement in it, but even today sporadic incidents keep happening in this area.
Here we met Pandu Markam and another surrendered Naxalite who lives with the soldiers of Chandameta CRPF Camp. Pandu told that along with the polling station, electricity, roads, mobile phone towers, schools have been built here.
There was also a cordial meeting with CRPF Assistant Commandant Shri Raju Wagh, the difficult conditions here were discussed in detail. I am happy to inform that Wagh Saheb is not only working as per his instructions but is also personally arranging necessary items for the local citizens. This coordination between the public and the soldiers is rarely seen.
Today, after a long wait of 21 years, I finally got a chance to go to Tulsi.
With hard climbing, long struggle and the cooperation of the soldiers, we somehow reached the height of this mountain which was my dream and saw everything there which is not only priceless but is the basis of our ecosystem.
Remember that this place is not a picnic spot at all.
Rest in the next episode...

With Shakeel Rizvi and the things we all could do thanks to your encouraging words and support...
I like to regularly redo the "about" page of my site. It always allows me to step back and evaluate what I've achieved...
This time, I've added a table that shows the progress made in and in between my first trip to Asia in 2007 and today.
Some reactions lately have "amused" me. No "overnight success", I'm not sure that really exists... It was with dedicated efforts for years, common objectives and with the growing support we received from all of you that we could achieve this. Because you were certainly believing in us more than us and you pushed us to give the best.
I recently heard a Sadhguru's speech about the importance of being surrounded by the right people. Depending on it, you can bright or you can create only dust. Thanks to you, we could bright and I hope we will continue to help the autochthonous people for many years.
The first trip to Bastar was almost 10 years ago. The bye bye to the French railway company already 5 years ago
But when we know that we got there without any official help and with a pandemic that hit our business hard, I say to myself: what a long way we've come!
Now, I am waiting impatiently for the opening of Shakeel's new guesthouse and am preparing the blog Ethno Travels for a better promotion of his guiding and hosting.
Because... I believe in him!!!!
