Our Intern from Finland is helping the kids in an orphanage in India in education and overall development. A new study by an international children’s charity has found that 4 per cent (or 20 million) of India’s child population are orphans. Most of these children have been abandoned by their parents. In fact, the charity estimates that only 0.3 per cent of these orphans are children whose parents have actually died. The study was conducted by SOS Children's Villages India, a charity providing family-based care for orphaned and abandoned children. The data analyzed in the study came from India’s National Family Health Survey-3 (2005-2006), as well as from the national census. Under the terms of the study, “orphan” was defined as a child who has been abandoned or has lost both parents. These kids are vulnerable and we need volunteers and interns support to help raising these kids by providing them good education and healthy living environment like other kids in society.
