Trotters is a small local Camel Safari business based in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Run by Late Del Boy and his friendly team (consisting mostly of family) of guides and jeep drivers all of whom originate from desert villages. Treks range from half day trips out to the desert, camel rides and a sunset dinner, 2 day/1 night treks via oases, derelict villages and vast dunes sleeping under the stars, to a

21 day all out desert experience. Amid a sea of touts and hotels trying to cash in on the lucrative camel safari business it is easy to get cornered into taking a mediocre trip. At Trotters we cater perfectly for tourists, taking them to the most remote parts of the desert, to untouched sand dunes and sparse shrub lands. The guides also, importantly, respect the desert and clear up all the litter after each camp, and give great advice about how to handle the camels and the dos and don't in the desert. Profits arising from our tours are invested in the development of Damodra (desert village) and has been of immense importance in improving the living conditions of the residents and providing much needed facilities such as a school building & bathrooms. At Trotters, our guests are extensions of our family, and we look forward to giving you a safari experience like no other in Jaisalmer.

Once-in-a-lifetime. Serene sleep in a clean, cozy bed above the sand. A soft breeze and stillness. A glorious, desert sunrise appears to give birth to a new day.

“Camping under the stars in the desert overnight was by far one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had. The sand was perfectly untouched, the sunset was absolutely stunning, and the amount of stars visible to the naked eye was just out of this world!” 🌏✨

Khaba Fort is a cursed village of Paliwal Brahmins, who abandoned this place 200 years ago due to unknown reasons. The crumbling structure of the fort still has the ruins of the homes of some 80 families that used to live here. Khaba Fort dates back to the 13th century AD and was once an important part of Kuldhara, a village inhabited by Paliwal Brahmins.

Once, Khaba Fort was the Sarai Fort (fort at the frontier). The traders who entered Rajasthan via the Silk Route trade stayed inside this fort for a night. Only after they paid taxes they were given the permission to go ahead for trade. The remains of the village looks like a well-planned settlement with a temple surrounded by several houses. Strangely none of the houses in the ruins have roofs. Khaba Fort still carries an abandoned feel with very minimal human activity in the area.

Restoration work is on in the fort now. There is a small museum that displays ancient artifacts. The view of the green field from the top of the fort is fantastic. It makes for great photography opportunities. The elegance of the Fort is enhanced by the presence of many peacocks roaming around the fort. Witness over hundreds of peacocks and peahens roaming in the site for daily grains and experience a morning like never before.
