This week’s article is about the people who grow bridges from trees. They also ferment arecanut, smoke and dry fish, and cook the best fermented bean delicacies. Yes, I am talking about the War people of Meghalaya.

Ki khlaw ki btap sawdong jong nga,
Ïa nga ki pyndap ki bsa,
Ban ïoh shakri pat ï’u khun bynriew,
Hala jingim phin ba phin nangkiew.

Ki artylli ki pyntha kba ki lyngkeiñ,
Ka Pynthor wah bad pynthor neiñ
Ïa ki nga bsa um khlem bynnud,
U kba jong phi, baroh ki jawdud.

Phi khot ka blei, phi buh ki duwan,
Ïa nga phi khot ‘ka tawiar ka takan,’
Phewse! mynta phin pynïap ïa nga,

Ki thwei ki shka ha met jong nga,
Ki tuid ruh ki jingïathuhkhana,
Hynrei kin neh satang katno sha?

Ka Syiem Myntdu phi khot ïa nga,
Sati Myntdu, ka Lamynchi, ka Sangman
Kumjuh ka Syntu Ksiar ki nongïarap jon nga,
Phewse! kin sah satang ha jingïathuhkhana.

Ha ka kyrteng ka jingnang roi ka ri,
Phi shna ki surok ban ïaid ki kali,
Phi tih phi khlong sawdong jong nga,
Ki dieng phi pom, ki lum phi pyntwa.

Surok kat naba mon ban shna phi lah,
Hajar tylli ruh ban shna phi lah,
Hato ka wah thymmai phi lah mo ban shna?
Ne lah mo tang ïa kaba mynta ban pynbha?

Phi shna ki jingtei harud jong nga,
Ki ïng ruh de mar syndah jong nga,
Ymtang ba phi pynthut lynti jong nga,
Ki jakhlia baroh phi bret ha nga.

Lada ngan kylla tang k*m ka nala,
Haoid ngan im swai im sdot shirta,
Hynrei kan jia aïu ïa ka pateng jong phi?
Ka apot kaba kaba k*mno kan ap ïa ki?

Lashai ka um pyndonkam kim ïoh shuh,
Ka ap sa tang ka jingkordit jingkyrduh,
‘ka um ha ryndang ban dih kim ïoh’

Two trainees, Kong Amedora Lyngdoh and Ma Leki Suting, both from Sohmynting village, West Jaintia Hills District, were awarded Certificates of Recognition by the office of the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA) for making the best use of the training provided to them. The certificates were awarded to them today at the closing ceremony of the PRIME MeghaPreneur Expo 2024, at Polo Ground, Shillong. The training was provided by Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment (SURE) as Training Partner of the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS). Their hard work and dedication have also contributed to the entrepreneurial landscape of Meghalaya. We are proud of them and wish both of them the very best. Congratulation to the trainers Marda Oo Myrchiang, Sonia Pasleiñ, Helpme Laloo, Habandajop Lyngdoh, Ilasiewdor Gashnga, Lanalangi Lyngdoh and others.
