Right near the LoC in Dras, Ladakh lies the gorgeous Mushkoh Valley which was a battlefield during the Kargil War against Pakistan
Now the peaceful valley is home to critically endangered Himalayan Brown Bears (amongst a few other places in Ladakh) that are in conflict with us humans as they reach the villages at night and eat their livestock
The situation is quite critical there and the villagers are tired of the havoc created by these bears every day
But organizations like Himalayan Brown Bear Trust Roots Ladakh Drenmo Lodge Himalayan Brown Bear Project Wildlife Trust of India are doing hard work to mitigate this conflict and protect the interest of both, the bears and the animals!
Are they successful? What is happening in these villages?Find out in this fascinating story of the BEAR VILLAGE!
P.S. - Correction! The name of the Teacher mentioned in the story is Mr Javed Ahmad! Sincerely Regret the error!

All of us have heard the story of 'Alibaba and 40 chor' who opened the hidden Gufa with the chant 'Khul Ja Sim sim'
But I found an entire invisible village in Ladakh which was always hidden from the enemies
There are many stories that explain the reason but the most interesting one is of Balu or Zbalu (depending on the Ladakhi dialect), a magical 1 foot creature who protects this village
Here you will also find a 500 year old house converted into beautiful museum by Roots Ladakh
Let me take you around this beautiful village on Leh Kargil highway - Henasku, also called the Zbayul!

The Siberian ibex (Capra sibirica), also known as the Altai ibex, Central Asia(n) ibex, Gobi ibex, Himalayan ibex, Mongolian ibex or Tian Shan ibex, is a species of ibex that lives in central Asia. It has traditionally been treated as a subspecies of the Alpine ibex, and whether it is specifically distinct from other ibex is still not entirely clear. It is the longest and heaviest member of the genus Capra, though its shoulder height is surpassed by the markhor.

Bearded Vulture

Uncommon and threatened inhabitant of high and remote mountain ranges, where they build large nests on cliff ledges or in caves. Even as a distant speck this is a super distinctive raptor with an almost albatross-like wing shape and span, coupled with a long diamond-shaped tail. Adults are orange-rust below with a dark underwing, and slate gray above. The young are gray with a dark head. Cruises along ridgetops on flat wings, sometimes arched downwards.

The Himalayan wolf (Canis lupus chanco) is a canine of debated taxonomy. It is distinguished by its genetic markers, with mitochondrial DNA indicating that it is genetically basal to the Holarctic gray wolf, genetically the same wolf as the Tibetan and Mongolian wolf, and has an association with the African wolf (Canis lupaster). No striking morphological differences are seen between the wolves from the Himalayas and those from Tibet. The Himalayan wolf lineage can be found living in Ladakh in the Himalayas, the Tibetan Plateau and the mountains of Central Asia predominantly above 4,000 m (13,000 ft) in elevation because it has adapted to a low-oxygen environment, compared with other wolves that are found only at lower elevations.

SURU GLACIAL TREK

The Suru valley glacier lake trek is an offbeat but ideal trek for trekkers who are just getting introduced to high altitude Himalayan trekking. Unlike other high altitude treks in Ladakh which can go upto 5000m in dry arid climate, this trail is set in the green oasis of Suru valley in the Zanskar mountain range. The trail runs almost flat starting at 3600m and reaches the highest altitude of 4200m gradually at the Lonval glacier lake, making it one of the lowest altitude treks in the Ladakh Himalayas.

This trail is sure to keep your spirits and adrenaline high with what it has to offer. The trail has plenty of rare wild flowers and wildlife such the omnipresent Himalayan Marmots, Asiatic Ibex, Brown Fox and if lucky the rare Himalayan Brown Bear. You will be crossing many icy cold streams and doing a glacier traverse. You will also get a unique opportunity to get up close and interact with an ancient, nomadic tribe called β€œBakarwals”. These valleys have been their summer abode for centuries. An ideal trek for beginners.

Go, sit upon the lofty hill, And turn your eyes around, Where waving woods and waters wild Do hymn an autumn sound. The summer sun is faint on themβ€” The summer flowers departβ€” Sit stillβ€” as all transform’d to stone, Except your musing heart.

The Tibetan sand fox is a small widespread fox native to steppes and semi-deserts of the high Tibetan Plateau, Ladakh plateau, Nepal, China, Sikkim, and Bhutan. It has a soft, dense coat and conspicuously narrow muzzle, and bushy tail. Its muzzle, crown, neck, back, and lower legs are tan to rufous colored, while its cheeks, flanks, upper legs, and rumps are grey. Its tail has white tips. The short ears are tan to greyish tan on the back, while the insides and undersides are white. Tibetan sand foxes live in small family groups that consist of a mated pair and their young; however, they prefer to spend their time singly. They are not territorial and often several pairs may leave close to each other and even share hunting grounds. Tibetan sand foxes live in dens where they rest throughout the day, raise their young or hide when feeling threatened.
