Today, we mourn the loss of MT — writer, filmmaker, and a cultural icon who immortalized Kerala’s soul through his stories. His works connected deeply with our roots, shaping the narrative of our land and its people.

MT’s love for River Nila was a blessing for us at The Blue Yonder. His encouragement inspired our journey to honor the river and its legacy. His spirit will continue to guide us as we strive to celebrate and preserve Kerala’s culture.

Seema Mohan of Purathur BUDS School inspires us all with her commitment to inclusive education for children with disabilities. Even during the challenges of COVID-19, she ensured “her children” stayed connected, engaging parents and highlighting their heroic efforts. Through art exhibitions and joyful drum circles, she has created a space where families and children thrive together.

In Memory of Rincy

In May 2011, we first learned of Pokkali rice, a unique variety that thrives in saline conditions. Working with local farmers in Kadamakkudi & Ezhikkara, we met Rincy, a woman whose kindness and warmth would shape our journey.

Rincy welcomed us with a simple yet profound question: “Mon bakshanam kazhichaa?” (Have you eaten?). It was the beginning of a connection that spanned years. She and her husband, Vincent, became part of Pokkali: The Story of a Rice, a project that highlighted climate resilience.

Rincy touched the hearts of countless travelers, always ensuring their comfort. Despite our personal visits becoming less frequent, her care never waned—insisting we drink watermelon juice and have achappams whenever we returned.

This morning, Rincy passed away. It’s hard to express our gratitude for the love and memories she shared. We wanted to bring Climate Change Portraits from The Brink to her, but when she couldn’t attend, we set up a private screening for her in Ezhikkara, under the moonlit sky. Her smile watching Vincent’s story unfold was priceless.

Rest in peace, Ammachi. The land feels different now, but knowing you lived here makes it all the more special. Thank you for the journey.
