On the 25th of January I and my wife planned to travel by train with our dog Chance from Bangalore to Kolkata. On the earlier occasions we have always driven by car. However we wanted to experience travelling by train with our dog.
As per rules we bought First AC tickets and submitted an application with the dog's vaccination report and details to the railway authority requesting for a two berth coupe... But on the journey date we found that we were allowed a Cabin.
On reaching the station we realised that if our co-passenger does not agree the we cannot take our dog in. Cancelling our ticket ment we loose the entire 12K. The only option was to see if our co-passenger agreed.
Fortunately we found that they were in the same dilemma and they had travelled from Kolkata to several destination and never had this problem.
We were told that we have to give a joint letter and agree to travel in the same cabin. While both signed a consent letter and got the tickets for the dogs they had to agree to travel together...
After getting I told the cabin, and the initial displeasure of some growls both the guys surrendendered to the fate to traveling together till Kolkata....
On my end I will never take a second chance of depending on the sencebilities of the railway authorities with my dog....

Belur - Vijaya Narayana Temple

When we talk about the culture, history, sculpture, art and architecture of Karnataka state, Hoysala sculpture, architecture and the temples definitely comes to ones’ mind. The multi sanctum sanctorum temples, stellate designs, the carved plank doorways, lathe-turned pillars and the sclpural carvings are of unique in their grandiose style and beauty.
Hoysalas were great patrons of art, music and architecture. They built number of magnificient temples during their reign of 300 years and their temples and monuments are indeed the best in the world.
The greatest among the Hoysala kings Bittideva later on called as Vishnuvardhana was an efficient rular [1108ad to 1152ad]. In 1116ad he defeated the Cholas and conquered Tallakud. In commemoration of this victory the Vijaya narayana temple at Belur was built. The first important monument of Hoysala architecture.

On the 22nd of December I and my wife had a quick trip of South Karnataka by Car.
We started slightly late and after a 5 Hours drive reached Ballupet and stayed in a resort named Nature Nestate right inside a Coffee garden.

23rd Early morning we started for Manjarabad Fort , a star shaped fort 588M above sea level and situated on a hill top. One has to climb 252 steps to reach the top. Tipu Sultan of Mysore built this fort between 1785 to 1792.

Next we visited Belur, an hours drive and 38 KMs away and reached the Vijaya Narayana Temple built by the King Bittideva of Hoysala. The first important monument of Hoysala Architecture.

Our next destination was Halebidu 17 KMs and about 45 minutes drive, a capital city of the Hoysala dynasty. After Halebidu we took a night halt in a place named Kudur as that was the toen where we found a pet friendly hotel.

24th December morning we drive to the Jhari waterfalls which was an hours drive in the hills and then take a Jeep down to the base of the falls. The Jeeps charge Rs.700/- for a group of 6 to 8 people. We made friends with four young guys who joined us in the trip.

On the way back to Bangalore we visited Sravanabelagola about 150 KMs before Bangalore. Place is famous for it's 58.8Meter high stone curved statue of Bhagavan Bahubali Gomateshwara. It is a Jain pilgrim center and the temple is at the top of a hill named Vindyagiri or Doddabatta. One has to climb 641 steps curved out of the rocks to reach the temple top. A clear picture of the statue could not be taken because of the repair work in progress.

Reached Bangalore the third day night at 9.30 pm.

My trip to Manavanur Lake and Murugan temple in Kodaikanal

25/08/2018

Monsoon in Kodaikanal is a beautiful time, the trees start flowering, the waterfalls are in full flow and the mountain slopes smell of fresh vegetation.
This time I found a new thing and it was hundreds of birds chirping away in the thick foliage of the forests.
My friend tells me that they call these birds Kukripuchi. I told my friend to stop the two wheeler so that I can go close to the foliage and get a view of the birds, but it was in vain. Could not sight even a single bird but recorded their collective song which I am posing here.
