Pumpsense Fluid Engineering Pvt Ltd This is a CENTRIFUGAL PUMP Manufacturing Company. The company merged with WILO SE of Germany in 2005.

Pumpsense has been promoted by Himadri ( [email protected] & [email protected] ) and Nandita Sen with the support of their associates in the pump community. Pumpsense is based on the learning and experience accrued from establishing and running a successful pump manufacturing company, Allied Centrifugal Pumps Pvt Ltd, (ACP), since 1995. This company successfully developed split-

case, end suction and inline pumps for industrial, building services and marine applications. In addition, it offered design and development services to international pump companies for listed fire pumps, both split case and inline, and a range of large end suction pumps for the European market. In 2008, the company produced nearly a 1000 splitcase and end suction pumps and achieved a turnover of US$ 6.0 million with an outstanding bottom line. Himadri and Nandita Sen handed over the management of ACP to Mather+Platt (A WILO Group Company) in May 2009 in order to start PUMPSENSE, a company dedicated to creating innovative products & services for centrifugal pump users and manufacturers.

Pumpsense Annual Meet- PAM 2024- Looking back, Looking ahead

Pumpsense team met on 15th April, 2024 at the picturesque resort of Ibiza for their annual strategy session. This was the fourth edition of the annual event. This event gives us an opportunity to look back at the year that has gone by in order to learn from both our successes and also from the mistakes that we made during the year. Also, importantly, we plan for the year ahead and also discuss on the mid term strategies to meet our growth objectives. Each functional group makes a short presentation and this is followed by Q&A session.

Over the years we have found these deliberations to be useful in clarifying our thoughts, review our mistakes and give us a great team spirit. This year there were 16 presentations covering strategy, marketing, quality assurance, fire pump business, product development, projects etc.

Hydraulic Institute Test Laboratory Approval for Pumpsense, a first for South & South-East Asia

It gives us great pleasure to announce that our pump test laboratory has now received approval of Hydraulic Institute, USA as a certified pump test laboratory for efficiency testing of pumps as per HI 40.6.

This approval has been received after an extensive audit by HI nominated audit agency and represents untiring preparatory efforts of our team for more than eighteen months.

At Pumpsense, we consider performance testing of pumps as a principal area of value addition, we not only verify contracted performance during the test but, very significantly, establish mechanical and hydraulic performance over the entire operating range. Performance test, therefore, gives us the assurance that the pump will perform as intended when installed in the field.

There is yet another reason for our eagerness to obtain this HI certification, one of our major efforts in the recent years has been to develop energy efficient pumps for urban water supply and air-conditioning applications. As a result, we have been constantly developing and testing new high efficiency split-case, end suction and other centrifugal pumps for these segments. The test laboratory status accredited by HI will help us to validate test data with confidence.

Finally, we wish to use this test laboratory for a variety of pump related research work such as cavitation studies, part flow recirculation behaviour. Impact of casing/impeller design variables on pump hydraulics and mechanical performance, condition monitoring study of pumps etc. We want our pump test facility to become a truly valuable laboratory for conducting these studies.

Successfully delivered to Australian customers -
These mixed flow end suction pumps are sometimes termed "short & fat" somewhat derisively because they deliver large flows at relatively small heads. Designing them successfully is, however, not very simple and it requires the special skills of our designers to keep the shut-off head and power control, to obtain high efficiency, and to keep an unavoidable recirculation gone as far away from the operating zone as possible We are happy that EMF 400-384 meets all these requirements with splendid ease.

Fire pumps must perform reliably under the most adverse conditions. We, therefore, subject all our fire pumps to rigorous Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) during the design and prototype development phases. Shaft stresses and deflections over the entire operating range, rupture pressure of the casing, bearing life, and suction lift capabilities are all analyzed, tested, and documented.
Constantly developing new fire pumps to achieve the highest reliability with the lowest possible peak power and driver rating. Detailed CFD analysis and numerical testing is followed by extensive testing of the prototype. Successful design requires multiple design parameter optimization. The lowest non-overload peak power must be achieved along with 15 ft suction lift capability at 150% of rated flow.
Every UL-listed and FM-approved fire pump goes through stringent witness tests by these accreditation agencies. Tests include the establishment of peak power under non-cavitating conditions and tests to demonstrate 15 Ft suction lift capability while the pump runs at full speed at 150% of its rated flow. Additionally, a pressure integrity test is carried out at twice the maximum working pressure plus 75 psi.

14HS 20 & 16HS21 - A Tale of Two Pumps
Many of the pumps we develop acquire identities of their own over a period of time. Their "personalities" are defined not only by their appearances but also by the applications they serve, duties they cater to
and destinations they travel to. These pumps are also sometimes defined by the changes they go through over time.
14H520 is a relatively young entrant in our community of axially split case pumps. The pump has been designed for a duty of 2700 m3/hr at 63m while running at 1490 rpm
The pump achieves a very reputable peak efficiency of 87% and is one of the very few pumps available at 1500 rpm in the Industry for this duty range. The pump is already proving popular both in India and Australia.
16HS21, on the other hand, is a much venerated mature design which has seen many transformations during its long journey as a mid-sized Industrial pump for a rated duly of 2600 m3/hr, 36m at 980rpm
This pump in its many avatars serves as a fan pump in paper mills, spray pond pumps in sugar mills, cooling tower pumps in small captive power plants, and ballast pumps in ships.

Both are champions in their class!

Yet another addition to our expanding range of two-stage axially split case pumps. The performance of the pump during the prototype test has exceeded our expectations - the best-rated efficiency of 84.7% has been achieved by the pump for a rated duty of 308 m3/hr at 113 m head.
Two-stage high-head split case pumps at four-pole speed are becoming increasingly important for conveying potable water to distant settlements all over the world due to the increasing scarcity of potable water. Energy efficient pumps are important both for the reduction of cost for conveying water over large distances and also for reducing the carbon footprint that every pump leaves behind during its operation.
