Jessore Road, Kolkata connects Shyambazar through Dum Dum, both neighbourhoods in Kolkata, to Jessore in Bangladesh.

The story of Jessore Road: This road was built by Kalipada De, a landlord in Jessore, Bangladesh. He built it for his mother who wanted to go to Ganga ghat (for bath) as at that time she had to take her bath on the side of a field. The field owner would often complain and shout loudly at her which hurt her. So, she wished this beautiful boon for all the people facing the same problem as her.
For the building this massive road and its tree sheds, the British government awarded him the title of ‘Chowdhury’. And then he came to be known as Kalipada Chowdhury.
