"Poredom" is historically an important place. It is a beautiful village lying between Pallikkal and Chadayamangalam, 5km away from Pallikkal and 5km from Chadayamangalam. The village Poredom is under the Chadayamangalam Grama Panchayath, Kottarakkara Taluk and in the Kollam District. It is situated on the South East side of Kottarakkara Taluk and this place is enriched with huge Black Rocks, rivers and water falls which attracts and fascinates everyone who looks upon them. Rice, Paddy, Coconut, Rubber, Tapioca, Pepper, Cashew, Banana, Areca Nuts etc. are the major crops under cultivation in the block
The village includes Velloppara, Kargil Junction(Sundari mukku), Ganapathinada, Chandamukku, Kinattumukku(Poredom Junction), Pallimukku, Kalladathanni, Muttathukonam, Paloorkonam, Ariyodu, Kallikkadu, Kannampara, Moolavaram, Parampuvayal etc. In Malayalam the word Poredom means the place in which the fight occured. According to the Ramayana, when demon king Ravana was on his way to Lanka on Pushpak Vimana (flying chariot) after abducting Lord Rama's wife Sita, he encountered Jatayu. On seeing Sita cry for help, Jatayu got into a fight with Demon King Ravana. The fight between Ravana and Jatayu were takes place at Poredom and collapsed on the rock after failing in his attempts to thwart Ravana's kidnapping of Sita during which he cut the bird's wings. According to legend, Chadayamangalam, which was known as Jatayumangalam in local parlance, was the place where Jatayu fell after losing to Ravana.
