After Bijli Mahadev excursion our guests from Mumbai did a Jeep Safari tour on the Raison - Kais - Beasar - Raison circuit route through Sari region in upper Kullu.
The day started with a short visit to Dakpo Shedrupling Gelug Buddhist monastary situated in the picturesque Kais village. A brief introduction about Gelugpa school was well recieved by our guests who seemed keen to know few things about Buddhism.
Later we headed to a local temple on the link road above Kullu town and paid reverence to Bhekhli Goddess. The intricate rock carved statues of the deities were a delight to the eyes and reminded us of the craftsmanship of the artists who made them.

A brief lunch and we headed on the Sari - Beasar - Shirar route overlooking the enticing snow covered mountains on either side of the vast upper Kullu valley. With breathtaking scenery all along the route we halted for few photoshoots in Beasar village and eventually reached backat our homestay late in the evening.

Few snaps from our Day hike to Bijli Mahadev viewpoint immediately after fresh snow and rain hit the valley after three month of prolonged dry weather.
The highlight of the hike was our 80 yr old guest Prabhavati ji from Mumbai who successfully and willingly made it to the top amidst continous cheering up from co hikers and enthusiast pilgrims who were also on their way to the shrine of Lord Shiva .

अंधेरा होने को है। नीचे भागा नदी शांत बह रही है। सामने पहाड़ के शिखर पर धूप की किरणों का नजारा लाजवाब है। सोचने को मजबूर हूं ।‌ शायद यह पहाड़ , उसके शिखर को चूमती धूप, पहाड़ के नीचे आदमी , दूर खड़ा , उसका अस्तित्व...ना जाने में इस दृशय में क्या ढूंढ रहा हूं ? जिंदगी की भागदौड़ में हम कुदरत के सामने रहकर भी उसको समझ नहीं पाते। पिछले दो साल की भागदौड़ का मानो अंत हो गया है। आज के दिन‌ का अंत होने को‌ है।
गाड़ी यहां से काफी नीचे नाले के बगल में खड़ी है। एक दफा फिर वह चुली का पेड़ आएगा। वह पेड़ मुझे भा गया है। दोरजे जी बतला रहे थे शायद वह पेड़ लद्दाख से लाया होगा। पेड़ विशाल है। शायद उनके दादा जी लाए होंगे। उस के नीचे शिला पर ' ओम मणे पदमे हुंग ' लिखा है। दोरजे जी साठ वर्ष से अधिक आयु के है। उनका बचपन भी इसी पेड़ और शिला के इर्द गिर्द गुजरा है। यह मंत्र और लिखावट उनके आंखों से आज तक ओझल रहा। वो हैरान‌ है। महानुवादक रिंचन जांगपो के दिशा निर्देश में यहां स्थापित जोलिंग लाखांग से यह कुछ ही मीटर पर है। लगभग दो घंटे तक हम दोनों सुबह उनके सेब के बागान में बाते करते रहे। जोलिंग लाखांग और उसके अस्तित्व के बारे में। आज लाखांग का अस्तित्व खतरे में नहीं है। शेरब जांगपो द्वारा इसका जीर्णोधार हुआ है। दोरजे जी के बिना यह कार्य संभव न था।

नीचे उतरते हुए उसी चुली के पेड़ के आगे एक व्यक्ति किलटे में लकड़ी ले जाते दिखा। यह तो दोरजे जी है। अपने सेब के बगीचे में यह आज पूरे दिन व्यस्त दिखे। शायद मैंने इनका काम रोक दिया था, इसलिए इन्हें देरी हुई। छेलिंग लुंपा (नाला) पार करते ही मैं उनसे आगे निकल गया। सामने अब गुप अंधेरा था ...

Last week's day hike to Beas Kund turned out to be quite a challenge as I finally reached back Manali around 10 pm on a cold dry autumn night.
Our guest Swapnil was eager to spend some time outdoors and I chose Beas Kund day hike situated right at the Kullu - Lahul divide .
I opted the anticlockwise circuit route through Lady Leg and amidst Swapnil's initial hiccups managed to reach Beas Kund around 3 pm. As the days are shorter in the mountains at this time of the year and it gets dark before 6 pm I hurriedly asked Swapnil to head back via the boulder section at the base of Hanuman Tibba and stayed back to enjoy a cup of Seabuckthorn Tea around Beas Kund.
It already got dark while crossing the boulder section and i realised we have to manage one and hour hour of downhill walk from them on. But as I had encountered two Delhi lads at Beas Kund asking me if they can attempt the Lady Leg route to complete the circuit. I have given them the nod but looking at their body language i changed my mind and told them to head back the same route from where they had started the hike.
On return I found them struggling among the boulders and realised their futility to reach back on the road before dark.
After helping one of the guy downhill through the treacherous boulder i told them to be careful and call me whenever they hit the road. I calculated they would struggle to reach road on time and headed back from Bakar Thach to pick them up . Back up near the gushing stream i spotted them in the dark unable to find the trail inspite of the torch in their hands . I soon realised they would not make it alone to the road and told them I would help them and walk beside them as the day hike would turn out to be a nightmare for them . I had spotted Bear footmarks along the lady leg route and it was impossible to leave them alone . One of the guy had already given up as he had started developing blisters on the foot.
After 3 hrs of walking downhill we finally hit the road at 9:30 pm. They thanked me and I told them to avoid such circumstances whenever they are outddors on unknown trails . They promised to be careful next time.
