Hoof fungus: A promising eco-friendly alternative to plastic?"
πŸ“Έ clicked on a walk towards Kheerganga from Gypsy House Cafe, Kalga
Hoof fungus, scientifically known as Fomes fomentarius, gets its name from its hoof-shaped fruiting bodies. It decomposes dead wood, enriching the soil and creating habitats for other organisms. The fungus is also called tinder fungus and has been used for fire starting and crafting durable objects.

A recent study, published in the journal Science Advances (2023) suggests that the composition of hoof fungus could be a model for creating biodegradable materials as an alternative to plastic, reducing waste. The hope is that these mushroom-based products break down after they are no longer in use to prevent them from persisting like plastic.

"If an apple blossom or a ripe apple could tell its own story, it would be still more than its own, the story of the sunshine that smiled upon it, of the winds that whispered to it, of the birds that sang around it, of the storms that visited it, and of the motherly tree that held it and fed it until its petals were unfolded and its form developed."

Monsoon in Tulga (2022)

- Tulga is a village in Parvati valley, Himachal Pradesh, India -

Wrapped in a cloudy cloak
Weaving through the misty green

Tulga feels like a land far away
Yet to be seen

O fairies of the forest!
If you have ever been,

Let this lush lore of the 'Soon
Dig deep through my emerald vein;

Etched like the bark of tree
I'll go through the dance of life
Without fear of any winter ever again!

Let us know in the comment section πŸ’Œ
On June 2012, the United Nations General Assembly marked 20 March as 'International Day of Happiness', to recognise the importance of happiness as a fundamental human goal. They also called for "a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes the happiness and well-being of all peoples.”

The resolution was proposed by Bhutan, a nation noted for adopting the objective of Gross National Happiness over Gross National Product, recognising the value of national happiness over national income.
