DESCRIPTION:
The red-vented bulbul is a member of the bulbul family of passerines. It is a resident breeder across the Indian subcontinent, including Sri Lanka extending east to Burma and parts of Tibet.It is included in the list of the world's 100 worst invasive alien species.

GREY HEADED CANARY FLYCATCHER
Tiny & fast, these Flycatchers are diffult to sight. was lucky to get hold of this one from Trek Diaries Bird watching Camp, Kurseong.

DESCRIPTION:
Also known as the grey-headed flycatcher, is a species of small flycatcher-like bird found in tropical Asia. It has a square crest, a grey hood and yellow underparts. They are found mainly in forested habitats where they often join other birds in mixed-species foraging flocks. Pairs are often seen as they forage for insects by making flycatcher-like sallies and calling aloud.

The flame-breasted sunbird is a species of bird in the family Nectariniidae. It is found on Timor and other islands, primarily in the Indonesian province of Nusa Tenggara Timur. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.

Description:
The Asian barred owlet is a species of true owl, resident in northern parts of the Indian Subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia. It ranges across north central and northeast India, Nepal Bhutan, north Bangladesh, and southeast Asia (Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam). Its natural habitat is temperate forest.

RED BILLED LEIOTHRIX (MALE): A beautiful singer but a very secretive bird very difficult to sight. Lucky us, he was Sighted on our Trek Diaries Bird Watching Camp, Kurseong, by

DESCRIPTION:

The leiothrix is about six inches in length, generally olive green, and has a yellow throat with orange shading on the breast. It also has a dull yellowish ring around the eye that extends to the beak. The edges of the wing feathers are brightly colored with yellow, orange, red and black and the forked tail is olive brown and blackish at the tip. The cheeks and side of the neck are a bluish gray color. The female is a lot paler than the male and lacks the red patch on the wings. It doesn't ,fly frequently, except in open habitats.

LONG TAILED MINIVET (Male): Sighted a few days ago by at Trek Diaries Trek Route to Chitray

Description:
Typical colorful minivet with red-and-black males and gray-and-yellow females. Male is very similar to Scarlet and Short-billed Minivets, but has a lumpy fork on the wing instead of a jagged ‘lightning bolt’ as in those two species. Female can be identified by a similarly simple wing patch and less extensive yellow on the head than Short-billed and Scarlet Minivets. Both sexes average longer-tailed than similar species. Usually found in pairs or small flocks in mid- to high-altitude forests. Gives a pleasant “dee-dee” and a rolling “pr’wee, pr’wee!”.

Kurseong is known as The Land Of the White Orchid but the Wild White Orchids are on the verge of extinction. Deforestation Is one of the main reason for the diminishing of these beautiful flowers.
We have have made it our goal to return these flowers to its origin, Kurseong.
These buds were planted by members of Trek Diaries, some few years back and some few months ago, and during our last visit to the Wild White Orchid Garden, we were estatic to see these flowers full bloom.
