Caterpillar Fungus is a traditional medicine, used in the treatment of a number of diseases for hundreds of years. It is also called as Cordyceps, a fungus found in certain caterpillars in high mountain regions of China, India(Northeast), Nepal and bhutan . Apart from China, Caterpillar Fungus is also found in Yunnan, Sichuan, and Tibet. The People of China prior think caterpillar fungus as worms, but after scientific studies, it came to know caterpillar fungus is a fruiting body produced from a virus named Cordyceps sinesis on dead caterpillars. It is taken in the form of powder as well as mixed with different tonic.

Nowadays it is prepared by stuffing caterpillar fungus inside the duck and boiling the duck in hot water and the liquid part is served to patients.

It cannot be taken at the time of Pregnancy and Breast Feeding
It slows blood clotting hence cause bleeding disorders
It might increase the risk of autoimmune diseases
Prevent the use of Cordyceps 2 weeks before surgery, as surgery requires lots of blood.
