Nepal is a beautiful country known for its stunning mountain landscapes and rich cultural heritage. If you are visiting Everest Base Camp (EBC) and Imja Tse (also known as Island Peak), you are already in the heart of the Himalayas. Here are a few suggestions for places to visit near your location:

1. Namche Bazaar: As the gateway to Everest, Namche Bazaar is a bustling town located at an altitude of 3,440 meters. It offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks and is a great place to acclimatize before heading further into the mountains. Explore the local markets, visit the Sherpa Museum, and experience the unique blend of traditional and modern Sherpa culture.
2. Tengboche Monastery: Situated at an altitude of 3,867 meters, Tengboche Monastery is one of the most important Buddhist monasteries in the region. It offers panoramic views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, and other surrounding peaks. Take part in the morning prayers and immerse yourself in the spiritual ambiance of this serene place.
3. Gokyo Lakes: If you have some extra time, consider trekking to the Gokyo Lakes, a series of turquoise glacial lakes located at an altitude of 4,700 to 5,000 meters. The trek offers breathtaking views of Cho Oyu, the world’s sixth highest mountain, and the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest glacier in the Himalayas.
4. Sagarmatha National Park: As you are already in the Everest region, don’t miss the opportunity to explore Sagarmatha National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to diverse flora and fauna, including rare species like the snow leopard and red panda. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the park while trekking through its trails.
5. Kathmandu: After your adventure in the mountains, make sure to spend some time exploring the capital city of Kathmandu. Visit the ancient temples and stupas, such as Boudhanath and Pashupatinath, to experience the rich cultural heritage of Nepal. Explore the vibrant streets of Thamel, known for its shops, restaurants, and lively atmosphere.

These are just a few suggestions to enhance your experience while visiting EBC and Imja Tse. Nepal has so much to offer in terms of natural beauty and cultural richness, so make the most of your time in this incredible country. Safe travels!

Ladakh Nomad Expeditions was created by Rigzin Tsewang who was born in Ladakh and has been a high altitude climbing guide since 1999. His experience ranges from leading small or large groups, guiding very experienced climbers to high peaks, guiding disabled trekkers and assisting less experienced climbers to summits above 6,000m peaks.
Still an active guide, his knowledge of the needs and expectations of any tour group is first hand and constantly updated, ranging from support crew, ponies, equipment and routes, all are catered for expertly and safely.
The philosophy of Ladakh Nomad Expeditions Tour is to promote responsible and sustainable tourism that aims to respect and benefit the local people and their way of life with minimal impact on the environment. Our guides make every effort to pack out what we pack in and whenever we camp in a village or a pasture we pay a fee for each trekker using the campsite. Grazing fees are also paid to the local people for the ponies used during your trek. At the end of the season we organise a cleaning trek to maintain the purity of the environment.

The winter fun & Adventure is getting almost ready.

In March, 2020, a team of climbers visited the remote Nubra valley. The team had two major objectives, namely a) To climb unclimbed, frozen waterfalls in the region. Known as First Ascents, this kind of climbing is on the cutting edge of mountaineering and brings international attention to the region, and b) to identify possibilities that will make Nubra into an international winter tourism destination and further, to liaison with locals, train them and build the capacities that will enable this kind of high-end tourism.

The team was highly successful in their objectives, putting up four new First Ascents, including climbing the extremely difficult (and thrilling!) waterfall at Murgi Village.

The following is a report on the trip, outlining successes and opportunities for the future.

Description of Nubra valley:
The Nubra Valley, in winter, is one of the most Ideal places in India for Ice Climbing. The only comparable area so far is the Spiti valley, which has become India’s ice climbing capital of late. The valley has a large amount of waterfalls for experts as well as for beginners. Many of these falls are located close to villages, which makes access easy and also gives revenue generation possibilities for locals.

Before climbing, the team did a survey of the area in summer months, identifying specific sites where waterfalls could be expected to freeze. The team also spent a month training in the Spiti Valley, as we were aware that some of the waterfalls in Nubra could prove to be extremely challenging. In Spiti, not only did the team bond well, but also managed to put up two First Ascents.

Prior to winter, Rigzen also went about the task of gaining support from local government officials and the youth of the area, explaining the task ahead to them. Because of this, the team received support from many locals.
