Leh: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC , Leh, Advocate, Tashi Gyalson convened a meeting on Saturday with the officers of different departments of District Administration Leh, tourism stakeholders, and officials of Border Road Organisation to review necessary preparations for the Chadar Trek and allied tourism activities including a Marathon on the frozen Pangong Lake ahead of the coming winter tourist season in Ladakh.

Considering Chadar Trek as an exclusive winter tourist destination in Ladakh, CEC instructed all the concerned officials and tourism stakeholders to make it more sustainable by regulating the industry in an organised manner.
He also requested officials of BRO Project Yojak to minimise blasting works on the road construction works near the Leh-Zanskar Chadar trek routes during the peak tourist season.

The need for proper insurance for tourists trekking on the Chadar routes and other formalities required were also deliberated during the meeting. CEC further instructed the officials of LMGA to work in close coordination with the Health Department for any casualties and rescue work during the Chadar Trek season.
The meeting also discussed preparations for the upcoming marathon on frozen Pangong Lake to be conducted during the winter season to extend winter tourism in Ladakh in a regulated and sustainable manner.
It was decided during the meeting to hold the Chadar track for a period of one month starting from the 5th of January, 2023 depending on the formation of ice in the Zanskar river and similarly the marathon on Pangong lake in the month of February, 2023. Councillor Chushul, DC/CEO LAHDC Leh, Director Health Services Ladakh, CPO Leh, CMO Leh, Dy SP UTDRF, AD Tourism, and representatives from different tourism stakeholders including President LTTA attended the meeting.

Relax in restrictions on movement of domestic tourists; Man-Meerak to Chushul, Loma via Tsaga-La, Hanle in Leh district and Mushko Valley in Kargil district
Tourism & Culture Department of UT Ladakh removes requirement of Inner Line Permit for domestic tourists and local residents of Ladakh in mentioned areas.
The Union Territory of Ladakh has done away with the requirement of Inner Line Permit for domestic tourists and local residents of Ladakh. However there remain restrictions in certain areas on movement of both domestic tourists and local residents of Ladakh being imposed by the Army due to security issues.
The Army vide letter dated 04-09-2021 has communicated that routes beyond Man-Meerak to Chushul, Loma via Tsaga-La, Hanle in Leh district and Mushko Valley in Kargil district are now open for domestic tourists.
In view of the above, all concerned departments are directed to bring it to notice of all stakeholders/concerned officials so that unhindered movement of domestic tourists/ local residents of Ladakh is ensured in the above mentioned areas.
