17th, October - Kaveri Sankramana.

Kaveri River also spelt Cauvery is the most sacred river of southern India.

Repeat the name Kaveri - Kaveri, Kaveri, Kaveri, Kaveri and you feel a sense of calm coming within you.

Also know as the Ganges of South India she blesses my land Kodagu with abundance and is also the lifeline for people in Karnataka and Tamilnadu.

Happy Kaveri SankramanaπŸ™

Baimbale or shoot curry.πŸ˜‹
One of the must have delicacies when in during the monsoons.
πŸ‘‡
The way the prepare the dish, the process that goes into the whole chopping to soaking it overnights in water to cooking takes you into a totally awesome culinary experience. I know not of any other tribe/community across the world who will turn the "Elephants favorite" into such a gastronomical delight....burp
🐘🐘🐘
🐘🐘🐘
The Kodava variant of the dish is an acquired taste and is best eaten with Otti - rice roti typical to Coorg.
πŸ’š
Though many households nowadays freeze the Bamboo shoots to be eaten all year ...in my opinion it's best enjoyed when one cannot step out of the house due to rains, the pungent smell wafting through the house the whole day and a grandmother making hot hot Ottis in the kitchen, the family waiting expectantly with their plates full of shoot curry with dollops of fresh homemade butter or ghee...Heaven.

Wearing jewelry has been part of the Indian Culture and Heritage ever since the Harapa and Mohenjadaro era or earlier and most of us love to own atleast one statement piece jewelry.
Today while rummaging through my jewelry box I found a few pieces of the traditional Coorg jewelry that I own.

Featured here is a traditional Coorg Kada which is about 60 yrs old. This design and craftsmanship is a dying art (the use of gold and lac to make a bangle) but nevertheless you will find various modern version of this.
To compliment the Kada is a pair of earings in the same design pattern.
And then for those who prefer silver to gold the tradition Coorg Kada is available in this metal too. This has now become my statement piece and worn everyday.
Walk into any small, quaint or big jewelry stores in the towns of Kodagu and pick your statement piece. There is enough and more variety for every budget.
If you wish to know more about traditional Coorg (Kodava) jewelry watch the video in the link below πŸ‘‡

One gram of moss from the forest floor, a piece about the size of a muffin, would harbour 150,000 protozoa, 132,000 tardigrades, 3,000 springtails, 800 rotifers, 500 nematodes, 400 mites, and 200 fly larvae. These numbers tell us something about the astounding quantity of life in a handful of moss.
- Robin Wall Kimmerer

time in
πŸ€
It's raining cats and dogs in and I bet all the old walls and pathway must have gotten all Mossy and green.
πŸ€
All I want to do right now is touch and feel the moss on my cheeks. They must have grown lush all over the old compound walls of .madikeri
πŸ€
There must be ferns & baby orchid too....😍
πŸ€
Ps: These pictures were taken last year when it was pouring cats and dogs in Madikeri.

🏘
Due to Covid regulations the camp is shut for tourists....
🏘
Bylakuppe is the 1st Tibetan colony to be established in South of India and is divided into multiple camps.
🏘
For a regular touristy stuff there is a must do / must visit Namdroling Monastery - The Golden Temple in Camp IV. With more than enough eateries, spice and kinck knacks shops you will be distracted and bored easily.
🏘
BUT, just in case you wish to see a bit more of Tibet at Bylakuppe and experience their hospitality, tradition and lifestyle, be a bit more adventurous and travel into the interiors of the camp. It's a delight to the curious eyes.
🏘
The Sera Jey Monestry is one such must visit destination after the Golden Temple visit.
Alternatively, you can book a room at the Sera Jey Monestry guesthouse and stay back to experience the Camp.
🏘
Visit numerous Monasteries around the guesthouse and beyond, take an auto if need be which you will find in plenty. Explore, walk into quaint shops, visit the carpet industry, His Holiness The Dalai Lamas residence and dig into local cuisine run by home chefs. The guesthouse too offers some yummy fresh piping sumptuous portion of paneer & chu - tse momos (garlic chives) - a must eat!
🏘🏘
Note : There is more to these camp than just momo, thupka and butter chicken.
🏘The camp was my home for three months and there is so much more left to explore...

TRAVEL is restricted but you can create your own GREEN AND WATER BODY around you.
Walk across to the nearest garden nursery, get yourself this easy to maintain aquatic plant called Pistia/Water cabbage/ Nile Cabbage.
Invest in a medium to large cement, glass, ceramic or plastic pot.
Get hold of some Guppies too, if you can🐟🐟🐟🐟

Travel trivia: Pistia was first discovered from the Nile near Lake Victoria in Africa. It is now found abundantly in tropical and sub tropical waterways.

Mercara you are so beuatiful ❀...
School summer holiday were spent at the grandparents...
Couple of days in the town with my paternal grand dad here at Madikeri...
I remember being forced to go for a walk towards Raja Seat to digest all the excess food & guavas I would be chomping on...
The entire walk was an opportunity to grumble about all things difficult, but when I saw these house & the Madikeri Fort in the background I would stand and stare at them till I heard a shrill whistle from my dad asking me to move my skinny legs towards him......
Oh the mesmerizing beauty of these houses huddled together, I wonder what they would be gossiping na? Were they envious of their neighbour - the Mercara Fort, and uff that laborious walk to Raja Seat...
Today it was back to good old days, that walk towards Raja Seat grudgingly with my super enthu cutlet energetic mom. I stood at the same spot, this time to take a picture ..
Alas there was no Dad with his shrill faugi whistle na...
