Happy World Tourism Day 2020

Celebrated annually across the world on September 27, this year World Tourism Day is more relevant as it addresses the importance of tourism sector in providing jobs and opportunities, mostly for women and youth, in rural as well as big cities amid the Covid-19. The day also highlights the unique role of tourism sector in preserving cultural and natural heritage all around the world apart from being a leading employer and economic pillar.

Countries across the world are depending on the tourism sector like never before to drive recovery, after bearing a heavy blow on their economy courtesy the Covid-19 pandemic. The theme for World Tourism Day 2020 is “Tourism and Rural Development” as domestic tourism is expected to return before international tourism.

What is Homestay and what is it's USP??

One of my good friend Vikash Rana from Himachal Pradesh think this way.. And I like the way he thinks...

Hi Guys,

For alot of you who are looking for world class facilities in the hills, here are a few things to say:

-I'm sorry for you if you think you can have a budget homestay under 20 grand a month for a family of 4 or 6.

- I say that because seeing all you individuals coming from cities I assume you understand that you won't be able to find a basic accomodation for 4 to 6 people in that budget even in the city your'e staying in.

- Its important to understand that the facilities you are looking for come for a price and the price for having those facilities in the hills is alot higher than any metropolitan city.

- Kindly respect homestay owners for what they are providing to you and the cost they're providing it at, most of us are charging for the hard work that has gone into building homes like these for people like you and to give you an experience of coming and staying in our homes, living our lives etc.

- Do not negotiate on tariffs because we really aren't running hotels that have 20 rooms, we are just small and unique homestays with a limited accomodation capacity and in that we do as much as we can for our guests.

- The homestays aren't an industrial business organization they're a community is what all of you wanting budget homestays need to understand, or you are free to book a stay at any 5 star and have a butler by your side.

Think about it.

With the aim of standardising facilities across homestays and bread & breakfasts in the country, the Tourism Ministry has issued new guidelines to such establishments.
Properties where their owners or promoters physically reside will be designated as homestay establishments, while those where only an agent or operator resides will be designated as bed & breakfast.
These guidelines will constitute the Common National Standards. Each State and Union Territory will be free to build upon them to suit their requirements, while keeping the core tenets intact. The properties will be categorised as silver and gold on the basis of the facilities they offer.
These guidelines will constitute the Common National Standards. Each State and Union Territory will be free to build upon them to suit their requirements, while keeping the core tenets intact. The properties will be categorised as silver and gold on the basis of the facilities they offer.
The Central government said that a property would be classified in a two-stage procedure under which the presence of facilities and services would be evaluated against a checklist. “Due preference will be accorded to the homes, which are able to provide Indian experience by way of Indian decor, authentic and exotic Indian cuisine, etc,” according to the guidelines.
“Formulation of the Common National Standards was imperative to standardise facilities and services that would be available to tourists in B&B and homestay establishments across the country,” an official statement said.
