“Melle ki Mithai” has always been a special part of our Pahadi Culture. Be it a Jattar, Kahika, or any small mella in a tiny village, the cute lil shops lined up with highly pigmented, super sweet mithai are hard to ignore. We all have our own stories and experiences of Mellas that we all saw growing up. If you are a pahadi, at some point of time, you have surely had these sweets. I have grown up eating these delights and this year, May 15 to be precise, while I was at “Dhungri Mella” - the Mella on the birthday of my village Goddess, Mumma Dhungri, I got this idea of making Diwali Candles inspired by our Pahadi Mellas. I hope it will bring the nostalgia and happiness on your face. I was overwhelmed to see what I had imagined turned into the box of these Mithai Candles. Hello everyone! How have you been? It was so damn tough but Finally Unbox Himachal is back with the fifth year of Rakhi Vow to keep Mumma Earth free from any plastic this rakhi. Five years ago our Idea Designer @khanabadoshruh (Amrita) came up with the idea of Rakhi Vow to eliminate single use plastics from our homes and it has been a great journey. Each year we come up with new designs and we work really hard to make it happen. We will start the sales from tomorrow onwards, we will share pictures and prices too. However, this year we have limited stock. As you all are aware if the floods and landslides situations that happened in Himachal due to heavy rains, a lot of people lost almost everything they had. Luckily, we are alive, and safe, however we lost almost all of the raw materials and right now there is no way I can get it back, also, we can’t afford to buy everything again. Mumma Dhungri is great, and so is universe and our spirit guides, we had few little things left and we did what we could. So, we have some new designs and everything is limited. The Story of Unbox Himachal Valley

It was year 2012, when I was on wanderlust. I was thrilled with a new sunrise every morning and a new sunset used to make my skin glow. Sleeping under star-studded sky and bonfires on snowy winters fed my soul. From making sand castles in Hundur, Ladakh to living in caves of Hampi, sun tan from sandy beaches to mountaineering course in Sonamarag, traveling took me to the lengths and breadths of Himachal Pradesh and as well as some other parts of India. After exploring the nooks and corners of Himachal Pradesh; I came across this beautiful village Nasogi, in Manali.

The place was rich in culture and peaceful. So, I decided to stay. I took some cottages on lease and started a career as a hotelier that turned out to be very successful. In the meanwhile, I got involved with the local community. There was something that bothered me. The local women carrying rabbits and pattu, pleading the tourists to get photographs always made me upset. I always knew that the local community is capable of doing better than this. Moreover the local art, handicraft and culture was dying a slow death. I was concerned because the present generation is probably the last one to know the local craft.

The local women are talented however they have no idea on how to sell the handicrafts. In 2017 I started Unbox Himachal Valley with an idea to save the culture and talent. It took me quite a lot of time to research and get in touch with the Self Help Groups, NGOs and women with the same vibrations.

Today we are a group of less known, however highly talented women, I call- The Unique Pahadans. We make natural, handmade, chemical and plastic free products with love. We believe in work from home and anyone can join us in this beautiful journey.
