TMT | WAKRO | 16 January 2025: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein inaugurated the Parshuram Kund Mela on the eve of Markar Sankranti Tuesday, a spiritual event that attracts pilgrims and devotees from across India and beyond.

Also known as the "Kumbh of the Northeast," this sacred site holds profound spiritual significance, especially during the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti.

In his inaugural address, Mein extended Makar Sankranti greetings to the people of Arunachal Pradesh and the nation. “I warmly welcome all the pilgrims and visitors to Parshuram Kund. It is my privilege to partake in this occasion of faith, unity, and devotion,” he said.

He participated in the Havan Puja, led by revered Sadhus, seeking blessings for peace, harmony, and prosperity for Arunachal Pradesh and the country. "I prayed for the well-being and prosperity for all the people of Arunachal and the whole nation," he added.

As part of his commitment to transforming Parshuram Kund into a major pilgrimage destination in the North East, the Deputy Chief Minister announced a ₹50 crore allocation this year for infrastructure enhancement under the riverfront development project.

This significant investment aims to establish the site as a world-class spiritual and cultural hub, attracting even more pilgrims and boosting the region’s tourism potential.

Highlighting the developmental efforts under the PRASAD scheme, Mein noted the significant infrastructural enhancements at Parshuram Kund.

The newly inaugurated guest house will cater to the growing number of pilgrims and tourists, providing them with comfortable accommodations and enriching their spiritual journey.

He reaffirmed the GoAP's commitment to providing comprehensive facilities for security, accommodation, food, and amenities at the site.

“We are creating a seamless and enriching experience for every pilgrim visiting Parshuram Kund, ensuring their comfort and devotion are prioritized,” he said.

On the occasion, DCM distributed dress coats to the volunteers of Parshuram Kund, acknowledging their commitment and efforts in serving the pilgrims.

Mein also announced that he would carry holy water from Parshuram Kund to the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, symbolizing spiritual unity and cultural interconnectedness.

He was joined by MLA Namsai, Zingnu Namchoom, Lohit ZPC Dasula Krisikro, SP Namsai & Lohit Districts, ADC Chongkham & Wakro, HoDs, and other public leaders.

This year the event witnessed an increased number of devotees, which the organizing committee reported to be doubled compared to previous years.

The Parshuram Kund Mela reflects Arunachal Pradesh’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage, bringing people together in prayer and celebration while fostering tourism and unity across the nation.

TMT | PRAYAGRAJ | 15 January 2025: The 'Mahakumbh began on the eve of Makar Sankranti and will end on 26 February 2025.

According to an estimate by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the world's biggest and largest religious festival is expected to garner ₹2 lakh crore in revenue. It is speculated that the mela will draw around 450 million devotees over the course of 45 days. Very encouragingly, it is most likely to cause an economic surge in the region, especially related to the tourism and hospitality industry.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) also estimated that ₹40,000 crore would be generated by the local hotels, guesthouses, and lodges.

For stupendous success and to replicate success stories, the Uttar Pradesh government spent approximately ₹7,500 crore on religious events.

This festival of the sacred pitcher will witness large scale economic and trade activities. An estimate suggests that with an average expenditure of ₹5,000 per person during religious travel, the total spending will exceed ₹2 lakh crore.

This includes spending on hotels, guesthouses, temporary accommodations, food, religious items, healthcare, and other services.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) estimated that the food and beverages sector would contribute ₹20,000 crore to the trade.

Another major source of revenue generation will be religious offerings and sale of items such as incense sticks, lamps, and idols, which can contribute another ₹20,000 crore to the trade.

Kumbh Mela is the largest peaceful congregation of pilgrims on earth, during which participants bathe or take a dip in a sacred river. Devotees believe that by bathing in the Ganges one is freed from sins liberating her/him from the cycle of birth and death.

Devotees from across the country are continuously pouring in the much publicised mela. Domestic and international tourists too are thronging the venue.

LATWS condemns allegation against Speaker Tesam Pongte

TMT | ITANAGAR | 15 January 2025: Countering the allegation made by the Arunachal ST Bachao Andolan Committee (ASTBAC) against Legislative Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte, the All Tutsa Welfare Society (ATWS) condemned it and dismissed it as baseless.

Earlier, the ASBAC had accused Pongte of being a non-APST individual – a claim that ATWS strongly condemned and dismissed as baseless.

Addressing reporters during a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club here on Tuesday, ATWS president Ngongphan Bangsia, general secretary Samhom Saweh, and assistant general secretary Lomsong Kanglom collectively labelled the ASTBAC’s allegation false and misleading.

Bangsia clarified: “Tesam Pongte belongs to the Tutsa tribe and is originally from a village in Changlang district. The allegations made by the ASTBAC are completely unfounded and lack factual credibility.” He added that the ATWS condemns such irresponsible statements, and urged the ASTBAC to verify facts before making them public.

Saweh added that the ATWS reached out to the ASTBAC’s district union for clarification in the matter.

According to Saweh, the district union denied any involvement in spreading such misinformation. To substantiate its stance, the ATWS presented proof of Pongte’s identity as an APST during the press conference.

Saweh also noted that Pongte’s parents are still alive and remain a testament to his tribal heritage. Further, he suggested that the allegations might be part of a propaganda campaign aimed at defaming Pongte, who has made significant contributions to the Tutsa community.

The ATWS reiterated its support for Pongte and called for unity and responsible discourse within the state

6 officials of edn dept involved in APPSC paper leak scam reinstated

TMT | ITANAGAR | 15 January 2025: Six officials of the education department namely Iken Bagra, (BEO), Radek Romin (BEO), Posi Gamlin (BEO), Joi Sora (PRT), Tama Saroh (PRT) and Taniyang Gaduk (head assistant) who were arrested and suspended for their alleged involvement in the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leak scam have been reinstated in the service.

The APPSC assistant engineer (civil) examination question paper leak case was busted in September 2022 with the arrest of Tama Saroh and Tanyang Gaduk, along with former APPSC deputy controller of examination Taket Jerang.

Saroh was a junior teacher in Siang district who also acted as a middleman in the question paper leak scam, working closely with the main accused, Taket Jerang. It was he who arranged the question paper for Tanyang Gaduk’s son, Thomas Gaduk, for the AE civil examination. Since then, Tanyang Gaduk and Radek Romin have retired from service.

All six suspended officials managed to obtain bail from the high court and then knocked on the court’s door for their reinstatement in service. Taking advantage of the lack of preparation by the education department in dealing with the case, they managed to get reinstated. The department reportedly failed to review the suspension order within 90 days as per the rule, due to which the high court ordered the reinstatement.

While issuing the reinstatement order for Radek Romin, the high court stated, “However, in view of the fact that a departmental proceeding has already been initiated against the petitioner, liberty is granted to the authorities to issue fresh order of suspension qua the petitioner, if so advised, after complying with the present order of this court.”

In the same order copy, the court stated: “In view of the law laid down by the Hon’ble Supreme Court as well as by the division bench of this court, there can no manner of doubt that order of suspension dated 01-12-2022, not having been reviewed not extended by a reasoned order within 90 (ninety) days of passing the same, the said order dated 01-12-2022 has lost its force upon expiry of 90 (ninety) days. As such, the impugned order dated 01-12-2022 is hereby set aside with a direction upon the respondent authorities to reinstate the petitioner in service.”

The possibility of deliberate sabotaging of a process initiated by the state government to punish the guilty officials has also been raised as some of the accused are allegedly related to the official looking into the case.

Further exhibiting a lack of understanding of the subject matter and misguiding the senior officials of the department, the directorate of elementary education took almost five months to decide and inform the secretary and the commissioner of education, who is the competent authority to initiate disciplinary action against the suspended employees, which provided the alleged accused a window of opportunity.

Also, it is alleged that some of the reports submitted by the departmental inquiry committee were inconclusive and the department had to reconstitute the committees, which further delayed the action against the accused.

Arunachal expert group submits detailed project report on cross - border trade routes

TMT | ITANAGAR | 14 January 2025: An expert study group, tasked with preparing a comprehensive detailed project report (DPR) for opening trade routes through Pangsau Pass under the Indo - Myanmar sector and Dongsengmang via Darranga Land Customs Station (LCS) under the Indo - Bhutan sector by the Arunachal government, submitted its report on January 13.

The ‘Pangsau Pass Trade Study Group’ presented its findings in a detailed PowerPoint presentation to the state’s trade and commerce minister, Nyato Dukam. Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta and senior officials from various departments, including home, planning and investment, finance, tourism, power, and land management, were also present on the occasion.

The report highlighted the historical basis for trade, tourism, investment, energy corridors, cultural exchanges, and other sectors such as health, education, and natural resources via the Pangsau Pass (connecting with Myanmar) and the Dongshengmang/Bletting route (linking with Bhutan).

A key focus of the study was to assess the macro - level impacts of reopening these routes and to examine the potential for cross - border connectivity, which could drive significant development in Arunachal Pradesh, officials added.

The study envisioned fostering connectivity not only for international trade with Southeast Asian countries but also for broader trade opportunities with the rest of India, providing a roadmap for economic growth in the region, the communique added.

Following appointment anomalies BEOs served show cause notices

TMT | ITANAGAR | 14 January 2025: Following the recommendation of the 5 - member Review Committee, the department of education has served show cause notice to several block education officers (BEO) who were appointed in 2024. The review committee was constituted last year was headed by Political Secretary Ragphoa Ngowa, with members Education Secretary Duly Kamduk, Administrative Reforms Joint Secretary Mari Angu, School Education Director Marken Kadu, and Education Undersecretary Khumkon Mossang.

The objective of the committee was to review the appointment process for converting TGTs to BEOs; to assess compliance of the appointment with relevant orders and court directives, particularly those stemming from WP(C) No 596/2018 and WP(C) 447(AP) 2015; and to identify any procedural discrepancies or irregularities in the appointment process, and also to provide recommendations for improving the process to ensure transparency, compliance, and efficiency.

As per the objective, the appointment of all the trained graduate teachers (TGT) as BEOs in 2024 was reviewed by the committee and after thorough review, it recommended to the education department to convene a regular Departmental Promotion Committee meeting as per the recruitment rules (RR).

The committee observed gross anomalies and non - adherence to the 2017 RR for BEOs. In one case, a teacher from Longding district, who voluntarily retired in the year 2018, was also astonishingly appointed as a BEO.

The 2017 RR says: “In case of recruitment by promotion or regularisation, promotion is to be made from the post(s) of trained graduate teacher (non-gazetted) who have completed 10 years of regular service in the grade, with a master’s degree from a recognised university and a BEd or diploma in elementary education or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institute.”

The committee categorised the appointment of BEOs into 5 categories. Category - 1 consists of teachers who qualified under the 2017 RR. Among them, 44 TGTs qualified as BEOs as per the 2017 RR.

It further observed that 10 BEOs do not have the requisite educational qualification, whereas 41 BEOs do not have the requisite service length as well as educational qualification, and 4 BEOs do not have required service length, though they have the requisite educational qualification.

The committee was asked to focus on the appointments made during January and February 2024, assessing the adherence to procedures and compliance with relevant regulations and directives. The board members had their sitting on 1 November, 2024, for its final meeting, in continuation of the earlier meetings, from 16 September, 2024 onwards, to scrutinise the list of all the TGTs and BEOs and other details of these departmental candidates.

All the BEOs appointed in 2024 have been served show cause notice, seeking their explanation.

The appointment of BEOs in 2024 is another major anomaly that has surfaced in the education department after the biggest illegal appointment scam involving PRTs, TGTs, LDCs, UDCs and MTS’ in 2020, in violation of the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board Recruitment Rules, 2018.

Miao police accelerates tirade against drug menace, another lady drug peddler apprehended

TMT | MIAO | 10 January 2025: In what should be described as a major breakthrough, the Anti - Drug Squad [ADS] team of Miao Police Station apprehended another active lady drug peddler from Miao township today at around 1200 hours with the help of lady constables. Identified as Sunita S***a (32 years), D/o Lt. Chandra Bahadur S***a, of Namphai Singpho Village under PO/PS Miao, the ADS had prior information that she was involved in supplying drugs to Vijaynagar area, 140 KM from Miao.

Earlier, acting on credible information, the ADS swung into action and spotted her near Miao Welcome Gate, opposite Buddhist Monastery. On spotting her, the Anti drug squad [ADS] team of Miao Police Station apprehended her immediately, maintaining all legal formalities.

Accordingly, as per procedure mentioned under section 50 NDPS Act, the ADS checked her belongings which led to recovery of 1 (one) plastic power drink container and 5 (five) plastic to***co containers containing suspected he**in weighing 67.48 gms, which includes the weight of the containers.

A case was registered and is under investigation.

It is to be noted that the lady was looking for a safe passage to transport the psychotropic substance to Vijaynagar area before the watchful ADS spotted and apprehended her. With this, the number of lady drug peddlers identified and arrested so far by Miao Police from the township and adjoining area is quite disturbing.

Miao police have been waging a tough battle against the peddling of all forms of drugs and to a large extent succeeded in its endeavour. Cases of drug peddling under Miao PS have dwindled encouragingly but a handful of peddlers often take advantage and successfully lure the youths. Despite shortage of manpower and service vehicles, Miao police has been doing everything within the parameters of its reach to ensure that anti - social activities are not allowed to flourish.

Few Drug De-addiction & Rehabilitation Centres are operating in Miao township but owing to minimal facilities, the addicts feel uncomfortable and insecure to join these centres. In absence of support from the government it becomes practically difficult on the part of these centres to provide the needed facilities to the addicts aspiring to give up drugs and lead a fresh lease of life.

Meanwhile, the United Miao Mission and it's youth wing, the Miao Singpho Ramma Hpung in a joint press communique commended and extended gratefulness to the OC Inspector Vicky Lowang and the Anti - Drug Squad of Miao PS for apprehending the lady peddler in time before she could succeed in transporting the large quantity of psychotropic substances to Vijaynagar.

“I have alerted the health department and in case any such suspected case is detected in the state the department will face tactfully and successfully. We could already tackled Covid-19 pandemic, we would face and tackle this too if detected” he added.

Delhi goes to the poll on February 5, counting on February AA8

TMT | NEW DELHI 7 January 2025: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar made his final election announcement before his retirement next month. During a press conference here today, Kumar announced the date for the crucial election to the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The term of the current Assembly is set to end on February 23.

On February 5, the voters of the national capital will decide whether to extend the 10 year rule of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), or bring the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) back to power after 27 years. The voters will also decide whether there is any need to revive the Congress party’s relevance in the capital’s political landscape. The counting of votes will take place on February 8.

On January 10, the notification for the election will be issued by the Election Commission. The deadline for filing nominations is set for January 17 and the last date for withdrawal of candidacies is January 20.

With 83.49 lakh men, 71.74 lakh women, and 1,261 transgender individuals, Delhi has a total of 1.55 crore voters.

There are 2.08 lakh first-time voters (18-19 years old), while 25.89 lakh voters fall in the 20-29 age group. Additionally, there are 1.09 lakh voters aged above 85 years and 830 voters over the age of 100.

This election is seen as critical for the AAP, BJP, and Congress, with each party aiming to secure its future stake in the politics of Delhi.

AAP seeks another term based on its achievements, though recent corruption scandals have impacted its image to large extent.

The BJP, on the other hand, is leveraging Narendra Modi’s appeal to woo voters, with the Prime Minister referring to AAP’s rule as "AAPda" (disaster) and targeting Arvind Kejriwal directly.

For the Congress, this election is crucial for survival, as the party failed to win a single seat in both the 2015 and 2020 Assembly elections.

So far, AAP has announced candidates for all 70 seats, with 24 new faces, while Congress has announced 48 candidates and BJP 29.

TMT | LONGVI | 7 January 2025: There are reports of abduction of two workers on Monday by suspected NSCN (K-YA) militants from a timber camp in Longvi village, near the Indo - Myanmar border in Changlang district.

As per news clips, claims and counter claims doing the rounds on social sites, the militants thronged the labour camps owned by local contractors and set ablaze everything at sight. Reports claimed that a JCB alongwith an excavator were also destroyed. After the destruction of properties, two male workers from the camp were escorted towards the Myanmar border, eye witnesses claimed.

As news of the destruction and abduction flashed, the district police alongwith the paramilitary forces swung into action and launched search operations to locate the abducted individuals but yet to yield any tangible results.

There is no denying the fact that the TCL region, including Namsai district have been experiencing the brunt of extortion activities orchestrated by the K-YA faction of NSCN. The general public, government department officers and private establishments are reeling in fear and confusion.

Arunachal among top 3 states with largest forest cover

TMT | NEW DELHI | 6 January 2025: It is a matter of great delight that India State of Forest Report-2023 (ISFR 2023) has put Arunachal Pradesh among top three states having largest forest and tree cover after Madhya Pradesh and followed by Maharashtra.

According to the report, Arunachal Pradesh secured the second position with 67,083 sq km of forest and tree cover, trailing Madhya Pradesh (85,724 sq km) and ahead of Maharashtra (65,383 sq km).

The state’s impressive forest cover, which accounts for over 75% of its total land area, underscores its significant role in environmental conservation.

Arunachal Pradesh boasts around 83,743 sq km of forest area, ranking closely behind the state with the largest forest cover in India. Renowned for its diverse wildlife and untouched forests, Arunachal Pradesh features a wide range of forests, from tropical rainforests to sub-alpine forests. Surveys indicate that Arunachal Pradesh harbors approximately 20% of India's fauna.

Tree cover refers to the total land area covered by trees, regardless of whether they are part of a forest, while forest cover specifically denotes areas occupied by forest ecosystems.

The State Forest Department and other stakeholders deserve appreciation for their joint efforts in preserving and increasing Arunachal's forest cover as such initiatives are essential for maintaining ecological balance and supporting life on earth.

The forests play a vital role in mitigating climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. The people of Arunachal Pradesh ought to continue supporting sustainable development and the preservation of the environment.

Forest conservation activity presents numerous benefits, such as soil erosion prevention, regulation of water cycles, biodiversity enhancement, and the provision of essential resources like wood, fruits, and medicinal plants.

It now becomes the responsibility and duty of the entire denizens of Arunachal Pradesh to sustain these efforts for a healthier environment and sustainable development for future generations.
