11 Assam Rifles defeat WRD to enter final of T10 Inter Departmental Cricket Tournament
TMT | NAMSAI | 12 January 2025: The T10 Inter Departmental Cricket Tournament - Season 10 is underway in Namsai. Altogether 16 teams representing various departments are participating.
The second semi final of the tournament was played here today between 11 Assam Rifles and the Water Resource Department.
During the scintillating semi final played today, the 11 Assam Rifles exhibited extreme skills and comfortably defeated Water Resource Department by 6 wickets. Electing to bat first, WRD could not do much with their bats and could set the target of only 76 runs.
Capt Amit as always maintained perfect line and length throughout the innings that helped him take four precious wickets. He was declared the Man of the match.
The grand finale will be played on the eve of the 75th Republic Day on January 26.
It is speculated that the 11 Assam Rifles has the potential to emerge victorious in the grand finale. But in cricket anything can happen.
Locals rescue, evacuate vulnerable python

TMT | BOMDILA | 27 December 2024: Nature loving locals of Demachang village under Shergaon Forest Division in West Kameng district rescued and evacuated an intruder reptile that had entered a residential area Thursday. It turned out to be a Burmese python, which had officially not been recorded earlier in the area.
Ngajee Norbu, a local resident, said, “It was spotted in the drains of two houses of our village. The residents of the area managed to bring it under control and put it inside a gunny sack. We let it go into its natural habitat, away from human interference.”
When informed, Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary RFO Yachang Kani lauded the locals who rescued thereptile, saying: “It comes under the vulnerable category as per the IUCN due to habitat loss, hunting, and pet trade.”
He said that the python’s presence indicates a healthy forest environment for the reptile to thrive.
According to the locals, the encounter was not the first of its kind. They said they often come across this species and other reptiles. The locals are untrained and unaware of the significance of the presence of Burmese python.
The Burmese python (Python bivittatus Kuhl), a non-venomous snake, is one of the largest snakes in the world. It grows up to 23 feet in length and weighs up to 90 kilograms. It is known for its distinctive markings.
Assam Rifles Responded promptly to save injured Girls in Changlang district
TMT | NAMPHAI | 24 December 2024: In a commendable act of bravery and prompt action, Assam Rifles personnel rescued two local girls injured in a road accident today near Namphai - I in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh. The personnel of Assam Rifles swiftly evacuated the injured to Krick and Bourry Memorial Hospital at Injan in Kharsang.
While on routine patrol, the Assam Rifles team encountered a serious road mishap involving two girls who had sustained injuries. Without hesitation and commitment to serving the people beyond their call of duty, the troops took immediate action to provide first aid and ensured their safe evacuation to the nearest medical facility.
The timely intervention of Assam Rifles not only stabilized the condition of the injured but also highlighted their unwavering dedication to safeguarding lives in the region. The local community has expressed deep gratitude for the humane and professional approach of the soldiers.

The rally at Margherita on Sept 23 demanded immediate handing over of the case of cold blooded murder of Gamrin Makat to CBI.
Several organizations led by Singpho Women Organization [India] also demanded adequate compensation to parents of the deceased.
Amidst scorching heat the mammoth rally was participated by Singpho nationals clad in traditional attire from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Tribal brethren from other communities also joined the rally, exhibited bonhomie and sought justice.
The members of organizations that participated include Singpho Women Organization [India], the Singpho Development Society, Singpho National Council, Singpho Youth Organization, Pan Singpho Student's Union, All Tai Khamti Singpho Student's Union, Miao Singpho Ramma Hpung among others.
Through the SDO [Civil] Margherita, a letter to the Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Bishwa Sharma was submitted with the hope that justice will be delivered as demanded and desired by the Singpho nationals of India.
In case the Chief Minister of Assam fails to address the burning issue at the earliest, the possibility of launching another phase of democratic movement cannot be ruled out.
The organizations sincerely hope that the Government of Assam will not take the issue lightly and deliver justice in time.
The organizations also appeals the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu to intervene and contribute to positive conclusion.

TMT | MARGHERITA | 24 Sept 2024: Even 53 days after the gruesome cold blooded murder of Gamrin Makat, no judicious action has yet been initiated against the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
Hence, headed by the Singpho Women Organization [India], in collaboration with the Singpho National Council, the Singpho Development Society, the All Tai Khamti Singpho Student's Union, the Pan Singpho Students Union, the Singpho Youth Organization, and the Miao Singpho Ramma Hpung, among others staged a mammoth rally at Margherita, Assam on September 23 in protest against the cold blooded murder of Gamrin Makat, an endangered linguistic tribal Buddhist minority student of St. Paul School, Udaipur - 4 Mile, Tribal Belt Transferred Areas under Margherita sub-division in Tinsukia district of Upper Assam. Thousands of ethnic Singpho nationals, clad in traditional attire from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, supported by fellow tribal brethren from other communities joined the rally amid the scorching heat to protest the murder.
Gumrin Makat, S/O Shri Chantret Makat and Smti. Jaongko Makat of Khumchai Village was found hanging around 0530 hrs on 1 August 2024 in the hostel verandah of St. Paul's School while 8 [eight] other hostelers were present in the hostel. As claimed by the local residents, the warden was absent and only the deceased, the cook and eight other hostelers were staying in the hostel when the incident occurred. Allegedly the Cook - Ganga Bahadur Limbu and few other students were fully under the influence of liquor in the hostel when the incident occurred.
St. Paul's School, an English medium private school is run by one Bipul Lotha. The school doesn't provide standard fooding, accommodation facilities including CCTV, security guards and other basic amenities.

TMT | MIAO | 23 March 2024: A cleanliness drive was conducted today by Way Of Life Foundation (WOLF) Rehabilitation Centre in collaboration with Miao Singpho Ramma Hpung (MSRH) at Lower Miao Main market and Miao Taxi Stand area.
Members of Miao Taxi Union and shopkeepers of Bazaar joined the drive voluntarily. Member of WOLF, Shri Binglem Mungray appealed the denizens of Miao township to join hands whenever there's any social service drive being held nearby.
MSRH Social Service Secretary, Shri Kumku Sanseng said, "We have been regularly organizing social service programs on several occasions in collaboration with the public as well as the Department of Urban Development & Housing. Mossang reiterated confidence that the voters of Vijaynagar valley will certainly vote in his favour and reap the benefits of development.
He will leave for Itanagar Friday and immediately after his return the pace of campaign will accelerate.
Supporters believe that the vote percentage in favour of Kamlung Mossang will increase and win the election by more than 5000 votes.
Bike rally held; Riders demand capital punishment
TMT | MIAO | 8 March 2024: In solidarity with the Spanish woman who was gangraped at Kurumahat, in Jharkhand, a bike rally was hosted by the Arunachal Bullet Club on Friday at Miao in collaboration with the Buffaloes Trail Roing, Miao Singpho Ramma Hpung and The Running Wolves, Namsai.
On the eve of the International Women's Day, the riders came under a same platform to register their protest for the heinous crime committed by a group of criminals against the Spanish woman on March 1. The woman alongwith her husband was on a bike tour of India since the last six months. The Jharkhand police acted swiftly and apprehended the criminals but the riders demanded capital punishment.
The bike rally kicked off from Miao township - proceeded to M'pen and back to the starting point. Several riders joined the rally demanding harshest punishment.
N'hkumsang area to be facilitated soon with suspension bridge and an independent panchayat block
TMT | KHAGAM | 7 March 2024: Just a month prior to the upcoming parliamentary and state assembly election scheduled to be held simultaneously, the local MLA & Minister for Urban Development & Housing, Geology & Mining, Food & Consumer Affairs Kamlung Mossang dedicated two multipurpose community halls to N'hkumsang area at Khagam Singpho and Phup village on Wednesday. Within the premise of the newly built community hall - cm - Buddhist monastery at Phup village, Mossang planted a sacred sapling of Bodhi tree brought for the occasion from Bodhgaya, Bihar.
After inaugurating the assets, Mossang addressed a meeting at Khagam Singpho during which a public memorandum was placed before him with two point charter of demands which includes construction of a foot bridge over Noa Dehing river to connect N'hkumsang area in the right bank of Noa Dehing river with Miao township and creation of a separate independent panchayat block.
Responding to the memorandum, Mossang informed that the state government has already allocated Rs. 10 crore for the foot bridge but due to paucity of time the tender would be floated only after the simultaneous election is over and a new government is installed.
On the demand for a separate independent panchayat block, Mossang promised to take up the matter immediately after the new government is formed. It will get done, Mossang promised.
N'hkumsang, situated in the right bank of Noa Dehing river is the oldest area in Miao subdivision and one of the most significant constituent of 50 Miao Assembly Constituency. The area has six centuries old villages namely Pisi, Khamuk, Lewang, Phup, Khagam Singpho and Khagam Mossang, inhibited by local Singphos who are the founders of Miao administrative circle in the 50s but owing to absence of direct surface road communication connecting Miao township it is still lacking behind in development activities.

Miao police to go hard on traffic violaters; wearing helmet while riding two wheeler mandatory
TMT | MIAO | 01 February 2024: With the slogan "Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha", and as part of Road Safety Week, an awareness program on traffic rules, specifically meant for riders of two - wheelers was organised by Miao police at Miao Taxi stand Tuesday. Miao police under the command of Sub - Divisional Police Officer Inspector Mago Tado and Officer Incharge Vicky Lowang has committed to go hard on traffic violaters and has made helmet wearing mandatory.
Addressing drivers and motorbike riders here, SDPO Mago Tago informed that road accidents claim three lives every minute in India and that two wheelers are the most vulnerable to accidents. Since four wheelers have safety measures, Miao police is emphasizing on two wheelers, he said and urged all concerned, especially women riders to make helmet wearing a mandatory chore to avoid injuries if met with accidents.
"Many riders die in road accidents due to head injuries and helmet can only protect from fatalities. Wearing helmet while riding a motorcycle is one of the most important rule a rider should follow", SDPO sàid, while adding that a driver or a motorbike rider is duty bound to follow particular protocols and traffic measures while on steering to ensure safe ride and road safety.
While appealing drivers to wear seat belts, he urged the motor bike riders to co-operate with the police by wearing helmet mandatorily so that the graph of head injuries and deaths can be avoided or minimised.

Bugun community reserve depicted in Arunachal’s tableau
TMT | NEW DELHI | 26 January 2024: With the theme ''Viksit Bharat", the tableau of Arunachal Pradesh on the Bugun community reserve, participated in the 75th Republic Day celebration at Kartavya Path in today.

The reserve is home to many rare and endangered species, such as the Bugun Liocichla (Liocichla bugunorum), a songbird named after the tribe, and the red panda (Ailurus fulgens), as well as various flora and fauna.
The tableau was chosen following a rigorous competition among all states/UTs, ministries and departments by the expert committee of the union defence ministry, based on different themes proposed by them.
Arunachal has accomplished the feat of participating in the event for the fourth time in a row, breaking the rule of the ministry that no state can participate consecutively.
The rare bird species Bugun Liocichla and other avian life from the sanctuary in their natural habitat has been depicted on the tractor part in the tableau
The Bugun traditional dance led the trailer part, where visitors and outdoor activities have also been depicted along with red panda with a cub. Skilled dancers accompanied the tableau on both sides, adding a touch of grace and cultural richness to the tableau.
