Eryx johnii. Common name Sand boa. In Mount Abu this species is not common. Many times when people call us for snake rescue we usually, come across Rat snake, Spectacle cobra, Wolf, snake, Green Keelback, Russell viper, checkered keelback, but not Sand boa. Seen very seldom.

Once again, thankful to colleague for timely call and shared all the information. Rescued and released in Mount Abu wildlife sanctuary.

How often do you see such species like this one? This is called Daboia russelii known as Russell viper. When they feel threatened, they can make loud hiss to warn you and keep distance.

The species is named for Patrick Russell, a Scottish herpetologist who first described many of India's snakes.

We were at the restaurant having lunch and then I got a call from colleague where are you? With guest at the restaurant. Tell me? Oh we have snake at the hotel. Do you recognise the species? No. Ok. My guest accompanied and we arrived at the said place. At the spot we found Saw scale viper. One of the big four of India.

Rescued and released in wildlife sanctuary in presence of Eco development ranger and forest guard.

Always good to get some fresh air after traveling big cities.Lush green hills in Mount Abu Wildlife sanctuary offers various hiking trails which leads up in the hills. Guest from Netherland had a great trip today morning. We spotted three Samber deer ("Rusa unicolor") and had a great culture talk.
