The struggle between a prey species and it's predators plays out every minute in the .
While predators big and small like this Buff Stripped Keelback (Amphiesma stolatum) are on the constant lookout for the next meal, prey species, in this case a Common Toad (Duttaphrynus melanostictus) are well equipped with strategies like 'parotid glands' (see the swelled areas behind the eye) the secrete obnoxious fluids and the exemplary ability to puff its body to an extent where it is impossible for a predator to catch hold of it.
At another day and another time the toad may be the predator trying to overcome an insect or a worm and similarly the snake may turn into a potential prey for a bird or a larger animal.
In the it all boils down to 'eat or be eaten'.

A Cold-blooded Murder.
An Assassin Bug has cut short the life of a large Great Orange-tip catterpillar.
It is said that in a year, if all the eggs that a butterfly or a moth lays inn year survive to become adults, then there would be no space left on the planet to breathe. It would be full of scaly wings.
The fact is out of the 400 odd eggs that a butterfly or moth may lay, only 8 survive to adulthood and breed. Rest all are food for the millions of assassin bugs, birds, lizards etc. to feed upon.
is a time for prolific catterpillar activity and no wonder that caterpillar hunters are making most of it.

चापडा किंवा हिरवा चापडा (शास्त्रीय नाव: Trimeresurus gramineus ; इंग्लिश: Bamboo pit viper, बांबू पिट व्हायपर;) हा विषारी जातीतील साप आहे. हा साप हिरव्या रंगाचा असून हे लहान झुडपांच्या फांद्यांवर, वेलींवर रहातात. हा साप अंडी न घालता थेट पिल्लांना जन्म देतो.
