Hajj 2020 - International Hajj got canceled this year.

Authorities in Saudi Arabia have decided to allow a limited number of citizens and residents who are already in the Kingdom to do this year’s Haj.

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Haj and Umrah said and in light of the continuation of the coronavirus pandemic and the risks of infections spreading in crowded spaces and large gatherings, it has been decided that Haj for this year (1441 H/ 2020 AD) will be held whereby a very limited number of pilgrims from various nationalities who already reside in Saudi Arabia, would be able to perform it.

β€œThe decision was taken to ensure Haj is performed in a safe manner from a public health perspective while observing all preventative measures and the necessary social distancing protocols to protect human beings from the risks associated with this pandemic and in accordance with the teachings of Islam in preserving the lives of human beings, the statement added.

β€œThe government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques is honored to serve millions of Haj and Umrah pilgrims annually and it confirms that this decision stems from the top priority it accords maintaining the safety of pilgrims on its land until they depart to their home countries.”

β€œWe ask Allah the Almighty to protect all countries from this pandemic and keep all humans protected and safe, the statement said.

Saudi Arabia’s top priority is to always enable Muslim pilgrims to perform Haj and Umrah rites safely and securely and the Kingdom has been keen since the beginning of the pandemic to take all necessary precautionary measures to protect pilgrims, including by suspending the entry of Umrah pilgrims while ensuring the safety of the pilgrims already present at the holy sites, the statement further added.

MADINAH – In a serene atmosphere filled with joy and spirituality, thousands of worshipers returned to the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah on Sunday after a hiatus of nearly two and a half months.

They performed the obligatory Fajr prayer in congregation for the first time after the temporary suspension of Friday prayers and congregational prayers for the public since March 20. This was made possible after the issuance of an order on Friday by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman to open the Prophet’s Mosque gradually to the public effective from Sunday.

Speaking to Saudi Press Agency, a number of visitors and worshipers hailed the gradual reopening of the Holy Mosque. Hussein Abdul Rahman, a secondary school teacher, said that citizens, expatriates as well as Muslims from all over the world received the King’s order to allow the gradual reopening of the Prophet’s Mosque with great joy and enthusiasm.

β€œI fell in prostration, showing my gratitude to Almighty Allah, earnestly supplicating Him to keep the pandemic away from the land of the Two Holy Mosques as well as from all the Islamic countries.”

Mubarak Ahmad Al-Sheikh, a Sudanese college student, considered his return to the Prophet’s Mosque for the first prayer after reopening as a great blessing from the Almighty. He thanked King Salman for his generous decision in this regard.

On his part, Amer Raza, a Pakistani national, lauded the elaborate precautionary measures taken at the Prophet’s Mosque to welcome worshipers. β€œThese great efforts showed the keenness of the Saudi government on taking care of Islamic holy sites and ensure the comfort of citizens and residents,” he said.

Muhammad Hamadah, an Egyptian resident, said reopening of the mosque is a sign of the extreme care and great interest shown by the government of King Salman in the affairs of the Two Holy Mosques.

Jamaan Al-Asiri, spokesperson of the Agency for the Prophet’s Mosque at the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, said that the head of the presidency has approved the agency’s plan to reopen the mosque after beefing up precautionary and preventive measures to ensure the safety and protection of worshipers and visitors from coronavirus pandemic.

β€œThe suspension of entry into Rawdah Sharif and the old mosque area would continue to remain in force and entry of the faithful to the mosque’s expansion and courtyards will be managed, limiting the congregation to the maximum 40 percent of the mosque’s capacity at a time.

The plan also included allocating specific doors for the entry of worshipers, and placing thermal detection cameras on the doors designated for the entry,” he said.

Al-Asiri said prayer rugs spread in the mosque’s extension and courtyards have been removed, facilitating the faithful to offer prayers on the marble floor.

β€œThe floors and courtyards of the mosque are being washed and sterilized after each prayer, along with opening domes and umbrellas periodically for ventilation purposes inside the mosque. Zamzam containers have been removed after suspending the arrangements for drinking the holy water as part of precautionary measures to contain the transmission of the epidemic,” he said adding that ground lines were drawn to mark space between each worshiper in a row and in between rows.

Al-Asiri said the order for the temporary ban for delivering religious classes, holding Qur’an memorization circles, and spreading iftar supra and distribution of food would continue within the mosque and its courtyards. He said the mosque will open one hour before the Fajr prayer and will close after Isha prayer.

β€œOnly 50 percent of the parking areas of the mosque will be operational. A media awareness campaign about the precautionary measures to be taken while visiting and performing prayer at the mosque has been launched and this is in cooperation with the Ministry of Health whose teams are present at the main doors of the mosque to carry out checking temperature of the faithful,” he added.

RIYADH β€” Sunday (May 24) will be the first day of Eid Al-Fitr in Saudi Arabia as the Shawwal moon was not sighted on Friday, the Royal Court announced based on a statement from the county’s Supreme Court.

18/04/2020

Another sad news coming as there is an increase in the number of COVID19 cases, the kingdom may announce to pray Taraweeh and Eid prayers at home.

Saudi Arabia's grand m***i, the highest religious authority in the kingdom, has said prayers during Ramadan and the subsequent Eid al-Fitr festival should be performed at home if the coronavirus outbreak continues, according to a Saudi newspaper.

"Ramadan's Taraweeh [evening] prayer can be performed at home if it cannot be performed at mosques due to the preventive measures taken to fight the spread of coronavirus," Grand M***i Sheikh Abdulaziz al-Sheikh said in response to a question, adding that the same applies for Eid prayers, Okaz newspaper reported on Friday.

The holy fasting month of Ramadan begins next week.

Saudi Arabia in mid-March stopped people performing their five daily prayers and the weekly Friday prayer inside mosques as part of efforts to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

On Thursday, Prophet Muhammad's mosque in Medina said it was banning events which dispense evening meals to those in need during Ramadan to break their daily fast.

The kingdom has reported 6,380 cases of COVID-19, the highly contagious respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus, and 83 deaths so far.

On Sunday, Saudi Arabia indefinitely extended a curfew in force due to the coronavirus amid a surge of new infections.

The measure covers the capital, Riyadh, and other big cities for 24 hours of the day.

A curfew, initially set for three weeks, runs from 3pm to 6am local time everywhere else. For both this and the 24-hour curfew, residents may go out only for essential needs.

The interior ministry grants permits for vital personnel to move around. Violators face fines and jail time.

Saudi Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - the governor of the capital Riyadh who is in his 70s - is in intensive care after contracting the virus, according to The New York Times, which cited hospital communications, doctors in the country and sources familiar with the family.

Dozens of members of the ruling Saudi royal family, as many as 150, have been infected with coronavirus in recent weeks, a news report said.

King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) have retreated into isolation to avoid the outbreak.

Doctors at an elite hospital that treats royals are preparing 500 more beds for an expected influx of patients.

"Directives are to be ready for VIPs from around the country," the operators of the elite facility, the King Faisal Specialist Hospital, wrote in a "high alert" sent out electronically on Tuesday to senior doctors and later obtained by the Times.

"We don't know how many cases we will get but high alert," said the message, which instructed "all chronic patients to be moved out ASAP" and only "top urgent cases" will be accepted, according to the newspaper.

The alert added any infected staff members will now be treated at a less elite hospital to save room for royals.

There are thousands of Saudi princes. Many travel regularly to Europe and some are believed to have contracted the virus abroad and brought it back to Saudi Arabia, the report said.

The kingdom of about 33 million people has reported 2,932 cases and 41 deaths.

The country, home to Islam's holiest sites Mecca and Medina, banned the year-round Umrah pilgrimage and sealed off the areas in early March.

Travel in and out of the country, as well as between provinces, has since been largely restricted, and four governates and five major cities have been placed under 24-hour lockdown.

Authorities have yet to announce whether they will proceed with this year's Hajj, scheduled for the end of July. Last year, about 2.5 million people traveled to Saudi Arabia to take part in the Hajj, which all Muslims must perform at least once in their lives if able.

Saudi Arabia enforced a 24-hour daily curfew in Makkah and Madinah, effective immediately on Thursday, until further notice, Saudi Press Agency reported quoting an official source at the Ministry of Interior.

Residents in both cities may leave their homes only for necessary reasons such as buying food and for medical care only between the hours of 6 a.m. till 3 p.m. Residents going out must remain within their residential area.

Residents are banned from entering or exiting the cities. The official said curfew exemptions still apply to those in vital public and private sectors such as security, military and media. Those who work in health services are also excluded from the curfew.

The source stated that the new measures were taken within the Kingdom’s efforts to confront coronavirus pandemic, and in implementation of the recommendations of competent health authorities to upgrade the degree of precautionary and preventive measures in Makkah and Madinah to protect the health and safety of citizens and expatriates.

β€’ Curfew to last for 21 days, starting Monday evening

RIYADH: King Salman on Sunday issued an order imposing a curfew across Saudi Arabia from Monday evening to control the spread of the COVID-19 disease.

A royal court statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said the curfew will start at 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. every day for 21 days from the evening of 28 Rajab 1441 in the Hijri calendar, equivalent to March 23, 2020 in the Gregorian calendar.

King Salman's order followed an announcement by the Health Ministry of 119 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, raising the total number in the Kingdom to 511.

The order enjoins citizens and residents alike to stay in their homes during the curfew hours for their own safety.

The statement said the Ministry of Interior will undertake the necessary measures to implement the curfew, and all civil and military authorities are ordered to cooperate fully.
