This might look like any other tree lodge in Africa, but ordinary it is not.

The Treetops Hotel, in the highlands of Aberdare, is a unique stay built right in front of an active waterhole. Originally built in 1932, this historic hotel actually hosted Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II on the very night she received the news of her father’s passing, and therefore ascended as the Queen of England. We all know that a Zebra’s stripes are as unique as a human’s fingerprint. But what happens when there are no stripes?

Meet Tira, a Zebra foal photographed in the Masai Mara, Kenya. Tira has a polka dotted coat instead of the regular stripes. She suffers from a rare condition called pseudomelanism, a very rare genetic mutation which causes this abnormality.
⠀
Tira’s future is quite uncertain though. Zebra’s stripes help them to camouflage against predators, and more recent research shows that stripes also help protect against biting flies, and sadly, Tira won’t be successful at either of them.

Giraffe Manor, a unique lodge just outside Nairobi, Kenya has played host to a number of celebrities over the years, who flock here for it’s one-of-kind experience.

In the midst of this pandemic, nature continues to stay its course. In search of greener pastures, millions of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle undertake this annual pilgrimage north from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Masai Mara in Kenya, only to return a few months later as the rains dry up in the Mara.

This year, even with very few tourists visiting these countries, there have been fantastic sightings of them crossing the many rivers in their path. Many of them make it successfully to the opposite bank, but your heart breaks for the younger and slower ones which are readily snapped up by the crocodiles who lie in wait.

A large part of the cost of your safari goes towards the conservation and upkeep of these pristine habitats and the animals that call them home, so they can undertake this journey older than time itself.
