The Indian Scops Owl is a scops-owl of medium size, recognizable by its prominent ear tufts and dark eyes. While its coloration can vary from gray to brown, certain consistent features include its dark eyes, a delicate black rim outlining its facial disc, and slightly streaked underparts.

Vanvasm organized a Birthday trail for Ananth and Amrit at BNHS CEC. The day was calm after 15 days of continuous rain in Mumbai. The nature trail began around 8:30 am with 35 participants including kids and adults. Exploring the Karvi trail, we discovered various macro fauna, including flowers, spiders, beetles, flies, and intriguing insects. Notable sightings were the stick mantis, Stalk-eyed fly, and Ceropegia Vincifolia flower. The kids' connection with water became evident after the trail, as they joyfully jumped into a natural pool. This educational experience allowed the children to appreciate Mumbai City's hidden natural heritage.

The Nagla Forest Block is a contiguous area connected to Sanjay Gandhi National Park. It encompasses a vast mountain ridge that acts as a natural boundary between Ovalekar Wadi in Thane, renowned for its Ovalekar Butterfly Park, and Suraj Water Park. Approximately 17% of the land belonging to Sanjay Gandhi National Park lies beyond the Bassein/Bhayander Creek, and these forests remain remarkably untouched, making them highly favored by those interested in observing butterflies, birds, and nature in general.

Plumbeous Water Redstart, a small and sturdy songbird that is commonly found in fast-flowing streams and rivers in Asia. It is known for regularly venturing into human settlements around dams, and canals. The male has a slaty gray-blue body with a brilliant orange tail that is often fanned, while the female and juvenile are gunmetal gray with scaly undersides and bright white on the upper half of the tail.

This bird species is an important indicator of water quality and healthy riverine ecosystems, making it a valuable species for monitoring mountain ecosystem health.

Pied bushchats inhabit open country, especially scrub, grassland, and cultivation, and are often seen perched on low bushes or on the ground, where they feed on insects and other small invertebrates. They are also known for their melodious song.

These birds are migratory in some parts of their range, moving to lower elevations or warmer regions during the winter months. They are generally considered to be common and widespread throughout their range, although habitat loss and degradation have led to localized declines in some areas.

The Brown-capped Pygmy Woodpecker (Dendrocopos nanus) is indeed known for its distinctive brown cap and white-spotted wings, and it is found in various forested habitats in Asia, including India. Additionally, they have been known to adapt to urban and suburban areas as long as there is adequate tree cover.

Caught a glimpse of the king of the jungle, strutting through the bushes.

It is also important to keep in mind that the frequency of tiger sightings can vary depending on several factors such as time of day, season, and even luck. So, it may not necessarily be your jinx that is preventing you from seeing tigers during your trips to Jim Corbett.

My suggestion would be to try visiting the park during different seasons or times of the day and be patient during your safaris. Additionally, it is important to remember that wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, and the focus of any wildlife trip should be on enjoying the natural beauty of the park and the other animals that inhabit it, rather than just focusing on spotting a specific species.

We at Vanvasm are committed to sharing knowledge and our passion of natural heritage with our patrons and make them fall in love with it.

Keoladeo Ghana National Park is one of the best birding destinations in the country. The ease with which new birders, wildlife enthusiasts or even just tourists can see a plethora of birds is unmatched. The predicted cold wave was no dampner for the three enthusiastic ladies who accompanied on this trip. The easy sightings of Sarus Crane, Painted Stork, Bar-headed Geese, Greylag Geese, Imperial Eagle, Dusky Eagle-Owl, Indian Grey Hornbill, Orange-headed Thrush, Great White Pelican, Black-rumped Flameback and more than 100 other species was exciting to say the least!

It was truly a breathtaking experience to see such a large group of hornbills flying together. The way they gracefully soared through the sky was truly a sight to behold. Their vibrant colors made them stand out against the lush green background of the forest.
As I watched them, I couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder at the beauty and diversity of nature. To see so many of these majestic birds in one place was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

"Guardian Of The Forests"

From the world's largest mangrove forests in the Sundarbans to the dry deciduous forest of Tadoba TR, tigers play an important role in maintaining the harmony of our ecosystem. Protecting their homes provides benefits to millions of species including humans.

Securing their landscapes, helps protect atleast nine major watersheds, which provide freshwater for over 800 million people in Asia. The presence of tigers strengthens the motivation to protect these forests from illegal deforestation.

A recent study in reveals twice the amount of in dung from living within the forest as compared to those living on the edges. Along with plastic materials like and other were also discovered.
Elephants are known as the of our forests, spreading through their all over the floor. Presence of plastic, metal and other is as troubling for health as it is for elephants.
Urgent steps need to be taken to bring our in order. Smaller villages, remote locations often lack a garbage disposal system, while use of plastic continues to . Increasing awareness about of garbage at source, waste at site and developing biodegradable, environment for plastic seems to be the only way forward to our plastic predicament.

A Lesser Flamingo tagged in Thane Creek on July 6 reached Bhavanagar in Gujarat on July after an astounding 16 hour non-stop journey.
