Reality Tours and Travel is a responsible tour operator in India. We are especially well known for our educational Dharavi Slum Tour that shows visitors the industrial and residential areas of one of Asia’s largest slums, located in the heart of Mumbai. We also offer city, village, multi-day and customized tours and we recently expanded to New Delhi and the Sanjay Colony Slum. Our tours educate vi

sitors about the issues as well as opportunities in slums and hopes to encourage them to understand underprivileged communities better. We use 80% of the tour profits and 100% of merchandise profits to fund our sister-NGO Reality Gives that runs and supports a variety of programs in Dharavi and Sanjay Colony. Our goal is to provide authentic and though-provoking local experiences through our tours and to use the profits to create change in our communities. Our vision is a world where all tourism promotes cross-cultural understanding and local development. Our NGO, Reality Gives (), provides young people in the local community with high quality education and experiences to help them maximize their potential. We do this by focusing on English, Computer and Life Skills classes as well as a series of activities and workshop in expressive art and sport. We run these program out of three community centres around Dharavi.

It's widespread not only in Rajasthan but you'll find many men keeping big mustaches in different Indian states. The men spend time and money to maintain their mustaches. It is a daily practice for them to massage them with mustard oil every day and then press them into shape by tying a cloth around their face. Rajasthani Mooch is a pride of men in India, especially for men of Rajasthan. In olden times mustaches often indicated somebody's caste status. Not so now

"The Mumbai Dabbawalas:
A Century-Long Tradition of Delivering Home-Cooked Meals
For more than a hundred years, the Mumbai Dabbawallas have been a lifeline for nearly 200,000 Mumbaikars. With a team of 5,000 individuals, all wearing traditional Gandhi caps, they transport homemade food between homes and offices.

The service originated in 1890 when a Parsi banker requested home-cooked meals at his workplace and hired the first-ever Dabbawalla to fulfil his request. The demand for Dabba delivery soon skyrocketed due to its popularity. Mahadeo Havaji Bachche saw the potential and transformed the lunch delivery service into the team-delivery system that we see today, with 100 Dabbawalas."

It's no secret that there are a lot of delicious street foods in India, like Pani Puri, Vada Pav, and Batata Vada, but Pav Bhaji is particularly unique for its intoxicating aroma. Pav Bhaji is an Indian fast food consisting of a thick, spicy vegetable gravy served with soft bread rolls. In Hindi and Marathi, the word "pav" means "bread roll" or "dinner roll", and "bhaji" means "a vegetable dish". Since these are served together as a meal, it is known as Pav Bhaji. You will find this everywhere, right from upscale restaurants to school and college canteens and street-side push carts in India. But it is said that you get the best pav bhaji in Mumbai!

Built-in 1875 on reclaimed land, Sassoon Docks is one of the oldest docks in Mumbai. A visit to the docks is almost always overwhelming. The stench of fish extends for miles; the sight of colorful boats and their flags competes with the colorful saris of Koli (a Marathi fishing community) fishermen. There are buckets full of fish and other sea creatures; streets peppered with hacked pieces, and small pools of blood dotting every few steps. It is certainly not for a weak stomach. More than 1,500 trawlers bring in around 20 tonnes of catch every day. Fast forward to almost two centuries later, the docks retain their name even though their ownership and economic activity have changed. Located in Colaba in South Mumbai, it is now home to Mumbai’s oldest and largest wholesale fish markets. This site in itself offers a livelihood to over 150,000 people, clocking a daily turnover of about Rs 2 crore (US $300,000), of which half is exported.

Let's talk beyond the busy streets of Mumbai or the beautiful destinations in India. There are many parts of India where technology still doesn't exist and people still work without machines. In rural India, brickmakers work the same as they did earlier: they make bricks with their hands, using mud and brick molds. Brickmakers work for local industries and get paid monthly or shift-wise. All of the family members work together to fulfill their financial needs. They have built their houses next to the place where they work. If you have ever been on our village tour, you might have gotten an idea of how these people survive.

Dharavi is located in the heart of Mumbai. Founded during the British colonial era, it has a population of about a million. Over the years, it has become a cheap alternative for those who move to Mumbai to earn a living. And while the Dharavi slum is well-known for being densely populated, movies like "Slumdog Millionaire" and "Gully Boy" have significantly brought it to the limelight. A lot of people don't see Dharavi as a business hub, but it is no less important than any multimillion-dollar company. There are thousands of small-scale industries thriving in Dharavi. Many of their items are leather accessories and clothing, as well as pottery and textiles. There are many big brands and designers who get their original products made by workers in Dharavi.

Mohammed Ali Road is known to be one of the most famous street food destinations in Mumbai. This is probably one of the few places in Mumbai that has very few options for vegetarians. Mohammed Ali Road is usually crowded even post-midnight and is bustling with people dining with their families and friends. Often, most restaurants are takeaway outlets where there aren’t tables and chairs set up for you to dine right there.

Watching the colorful flower market in Dadar East, Mumbai unfolds at 5 AM every morning is a sight. It's chaotically beautiful, and the colors can soothe your senses. The tiny, narrow lane is lined with kiosks, stalls, and even wooden planks with one thing in common, flowers and the sweet fragrance that awaits us. We found roses, lotuses, gerberas, crimsons, lilies, marigolds, chrysanthemums, and peonies to only name a few. You can surely visit this place on our Local Transport & Dabbawallah Tour!!

The Gateway of India is an arch monument built during the 20th century in Bombay, India. Dhobi Ghat garnered a Guinness Book of World Records entry under ‘most people hand-washing clothes at a single location’ in 2011. It is located at Mahalaxmi Railway Station in Southern Mumbai. The washers, known as dhobis, work in the open air to clean clothes and linen from Mumbai's hotels and hospitals. Dhobi Ghat laundry is one of the top tourist destinations of the city. It buzzes with washers and the smell of washing soda and other chemicals all day long.

We time-traveled to simpler times at Kumbharwada – the potter’s colony in Dharavi. Its existence can be traced back to as early as the 19th century when the local and skilled potters from Gujarat migrated to the city. They brought their culture, art, and decades-old pottery skills. Thus, bringing along their cultural, artistic, and decade-old skills.
