Kanthalloor Panchayat of Idukki district of Kerala has been bestowed with the "Gold Award" by the Government of India in the category of Best Rural Tourism Projects on World Tourism Day. Kerala Tourism Director P.B. Nooh IAS,Rupeshkumar K, State Responsible Tourism Mission Coordinator &State Nodal officer- Rural Tourism , P.T. Mohandas , Kanthalloor Panchayat president received the award from the Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, India Smt.V. Vidhyavathi IAS.Kanthalloor has successfully implemented the STREET project- Sustainable Tangible Responsible Experiential Ethinic Tourism" under State Responsible Tourism Mission. Kanthalloor has the distinction of being the country's first panchayat to implement "Women Friendly Tourism Program" for which several programs were held in collaboration with UN Women India. UN Women India is currently conducting training programs for women working in spices sector in Kanthalloor. The support of panchayat in implementing the programs are to be well appreciated while the Responsible Tourism Mission is planning for Gender Audit at the Kanthalloor Panchayat where destination safety study has already been completed with technical support of UN Women India
