400 years old historic Nahan Town in Splendid Sirmaur has many unique monuments ,which cannot be found anywhere else in the country. One such Monument is the Grave of Royal Elephant "BrijRaj". This is perhaps the only such place which is revered as having Spiritual and Healing Powers by the people. It is the embodiment of Eternal Love between an animal and it's master. This Tomb is at Nahan on NH.907A near CJM residence. Brijraj was a Royal Elephant of Maharaja Shamsher Prakash of the erstwhile Sirmaur Kingdom. The elephant was very dear to Maharaja, and they both had a close bonding. It is said that when ever Brijraj used to come out of the Royal Palace for a stroll in the town .It was instructed to the shop keepers to allow him to have any food, sweets,fruits etc that he wishes to eat. The bills were paid by the Maharaja. The elephant died somewhere around 1890 and thereafter a tomb was built by the Maharaja in his memory. Still a lot of people pay obiences to the elephant as it is believed to have healing powers especially if small children fall ill. Very strangely there is tree near this tomb whose trunk has the appearance of elephant's foot. This is a very unique monument of its own kind in India and a tribute to Animal love.A must visit place while in Splendid Sirmaur!

Take a trek from Banethi to Jamta . the trek starts from beautiful Forest Rest House at Banethi which was. Built in 1905 of sandstone and wood in old colonial style. The trek from Banethi is 7km is a great experience if you are a nature lover.Beautiful Pine Forest , Breezy and tranquil landscapes, small happy villages, birds flocking and chorping .It leads to famous leisure tourist spot called Jamta overlooking the Nahan Town and vast plains on one side and Churdhar range on other. One can also take oof road cycling on this trek. It is definitely not to be missed experience when you are in Splendid Sirmaur. Banethi is about 15km from Nahan and Jamta is 12 km . Banethi Foreat House can be booked by contacting DFO Nahan.
