Namakkal Sri Anjaneyar Temple is located at Namakkal in Tamilnadu state, dedicated to Lord Hanuman.’Lord Anjaneyar‘ is the another name of Lord Hanuman. The name Namakkal was said to be derived from the word “Namagiri”, a single rock formation at the middle of the town. or the huge statue of Lord Hanuman, which stands at a height of 18 feet. And the specialty is the statue is made out of a single stone and stands out to an open sky, no roofs are built for Lord Hanuman. Opposite to Lord Hanuman, there is a temple of Lord Narasimha (Lord Vishnu). Lord Hanuman is seen facing towards Lord Narasimha with folded hands and worshiping the lotus feet of Lord Narasimha. The special feature of Lord Narasimha is that we can notice the blood stain in the nails of Lord Narasimha, which was believed to be caused by killing the demon king Hiranyakashipu. Lord Narasimha is believed to be a self-manifested idol of Lord Vishnu, who is in the form of ‘Narasimha Swamy‘ (half man and half lion). There is also a separate shrine for Goddess Lakshmi, who is popularly called as Goddess Namagiri Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Narasimha. Goddess Namagiri Lakshmi was considered as the family Goddess of famous mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujam. The main deities of this rock cave temple are Lord Narasimha Swamy, Goddess Namagiri Lakshmi and Lord Hanuman. Here Lord Hanuman stands at a height of 18 feet with a ‘Japa mala‘ (Hindu prayer beads) in His hand and a Sword in His waist. Lord Hanuman was adorned with golden crown, diamond ear rings, golden belt and other precious ornaments. Lord Hanuman was always decorated with His favorite tulasi garlands, betel garlands and are offered with milk, ghee, honey etc. There is also a temple of Lord Sri Ranganatha Swamy, which is found quite away from the shrine of Lord Hanuman. These cave temples are called by other names as Adiyendra Visnugrha (Lord Ranganatha swamy Temple) and Adiyanavaya Visnugrha (Lord Narasimha swamy Temple).
