गंगाणी
प्राचीन माँ गंगा कुण्ड एवं मंदिर गंगाणी का इतिहास:-
त्रेतायुग के समय की कथा है। भृगुवंशी ऋषि ऋचीक एवं सत्यवती के पुत्र जमदग्नि ऋषि हुए। जिनका विवाह राजा प्रसेनजीत की पुत्री रेणुका जी से हुआ। जमदग्नि ऋषि की विद्वानता को देखते हुए उनकी गणना सप्तऋषियों में होने लगी। जमदग्नि ऋषि अपनी पत्नी रेणुका जी व पांच पुत्रों रुक्मवाण, सुखेण, वसु, विश्ववानस तथा परशुराम जी के संग थान गांव (गंगाणी से 3 किमी उत्तर दिशा में स्थित) में निवास करते थे। जनश्रुतियों के अनुसार ऋषि जमदग्नि नित्य प्रति प्रातः पूजा हेतु ताँबाखाणी उत्तरकाशी से गंगास्नान करते व गंगाजल लाते थे। कई वर्षों तक यही क्रम चलता रहा किन्तु जब जमदग्नि ऋषि वृद्ध हो चले व गंगाजल लाने में असमर्थ हो गए तब उनकी धर्मपत्नी रेणुका जी गंगाजल लाने लगी किन्तु जब वो भी वृद्ध हो चली तो जमदग्नि ऋषि के सामने एक विकट समस्या उत्पन्न हो गई। बहुत विचार करने के उपरांत जमदग्नि ऋषि ने अपने आश्रम से 3 किमी की दूरी पर स्थित यमुना तट पर माँ गंगा जी को प्रसन्न करने हेतु कठोर तप प्रारंभ कर दिया। फलस्वरूप माँ गंगा जी ने जमदग्नि ऋषि को साक्षात दर्शन दिए व उनका तप करने का कारण पूछा। जमदग्नि ऋषि ने माँ गंगा जी को अपनी समस्या कह सुनाई व वरदान के रूप में माँ गंगा जी से उसी तपोभूमि पर अवतरण मांगा। माँ गंगा जी तथास्तु कहते हुए अंतर्ध्यान हो गयी तत्पश्चात उसी स्थान से एक श्याम वर्ण की शिला भूमि को चीरते हुए प्रकट हुई व उसके पीछे से गंगाजल की एक मोटी धारा प्रवाहित होने लगी। तदन्तर ऋषि जमदग्नि बड़े ही सहजता व प्रसन्नता से पूजा-अर्चना करने लगे। कालांतर में गंगाजल की धारा की जगह पर राजकाल के समय में श्याम वर्ण की शिलाओं से एक सुन्दर कुंड का निर्माण हुआ जो कि समय के साथ-साथ जीर्ण-शीर्ण हो चुका है। गंगाणी में "माँ गंगा" "माँ यमुना" व केदारकांठा नाम�
