NIE Campus Cycling

Hi friends,

We went cycling on this route today: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1217639002?share_unique_id=6. This is a good circuit and can be emulated by fellow cyclists as well. The route covers lots of interesting streets and places starting from Vandemataram Marg, DU north campus, Kamla Nehru ridge, Mother Teresa Crescent road, and Dandi March statue. Some interesting pieces of information:
1) You get good quality watermelon and coconut water on Vandemataram Marg after 6 am. Do wait and have it if you can.
2) A small stretch of the Rani Jhansi road is not well maintained and hence, it can be annoying to some cyclists. But this is a small stretch and can be ignored in the overall scheme of things.
3) You get really awesome Bedmi Puri-sabzi and Lassi at Gopalji restaurant (Kamla Nagar) from 7:15 AM onwards.
4) The Kamla Nehru ridge is full of ups and downs, and hence, it may be difficult for novices. But believe us; Kamla Nehru ridge stretch should one of the best-cycling spots in Delhi.

Distance 45.58 km | Time 3:17:12 | Speed 13.9 kph | Elev Gain 134 m

NSS IIT Delhi
Presents
An interactive talk titled
"Gently on pedals, cycling into thin Air"

Keynote speaker:
Jesim Pais holds a PhD in Economics from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR). An important reason why he chose to study Economics after having done an engineering degree is the learning and experience of a bicycle tour he undertook with a classmate and friend after graduating. The trip in 1995-96 was planned to be from his home town Mysore in Karnataka to Oxford in the United Kingdom. Eventually with a number of hurdles the trip was realized, but not much cycling could be done in India. Jesim Pais and Haider Khorakiwala began their trip at the port city of Bander-e-Abbas in southern Iran in May 1995 and arrived in Oxford in the UK in December 1995 having cycled about 13,000 kms across 11 countries.
Jesim Pais continues to be an active cyclist, who uses his cycle to work, to do daily chores and occasionally undertakes long distance cycling. He and his family host long distance cyclists at their home in Delhi.

About the session:
The presentation titled Gently on pedals, cycling into thin Air (at IIT, Delhi) would begin with a brief introduction about cycles and cycling. This will include some discussion on the types of cycles and the appropriateness of each type. This will be followed by an introduction to cycle touring – or long distance cycling. The final part of the presentation is about a cycling trip from Bhuntar in Himachal Pradesh to Leh and Khardung La in Ladakh (2014).

Day & Date: Tuesday, 29/03/2016

When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking.
