You will explore the century’s old monasteries which belong to Tibetan Buddhism where monks practice meditation and other monastic rituals preserving old Stucco images and Thangkas depicting different life stories of Guru Padmasambhava, the founder of Gelug-Pa sect, people of Spiti live with their herds of Yak, Sheep and goat. They are hospitable and in villages still maintain the centuries old tradition.

The topography of Spiti is marked by high mountains and narrow river valleys with flat land being an uncommon occurrence. The rugged climate and high altitude makes the region somewhat difficult for human habitation. The great range of the main Himalayas in back ground is beautiful and refreshing. Wildlife as Ibex and Thar can be seen in the herds as well as the snow wolves too.

We tried to make sure that you get the best of Spiti in the limited time we have!

*Parashar Lake* The history of this lake dates back to the Pandava's era! What is so unique about this lake?
1. The depth of the lake is unknown
2. The lake comprises of a floating island that keeps on changing its position (this is believed to have a link with the revolving of earth)
3. Locals believe that sinkage of the floating island will mark the end of planet earth and life on it.

**Hemis Festival** The 2 day festival is celebrated in the month of June/July every year to celebrate Lord Padmasambhava's birth anniversary, who is believed to be reincarnate of Lord Buddha, and the win of good over evil.

The most intriguing part is the mystic masked dance performed by the Lamas, also known as Cham Dance accompanied with heavy music flows through musical instruments like cymbals and drums which enhances the festive mood of the monastery.

We were told that nothing is better than the best, well they were wrong! This was yet another "best" travel group that we were very fortunate to have hosted!

Every trip we take, every place we go to, we try to come out of it as members of the same family, united by our passion for travelling! For some it might be money, but for us, the experiences and happy, sometimes teary, faces of people is what gives us the real high in life and that is what keeps us going at Smapsters!
