On Friday, American carmaker Ford announced plans to use its Chennai plant for exports and has informed the Tamil Nadu government about this decision. After stopping vehicle production in India in 2021, Ford has now submitted a Letter of Intent (LOI) to the state government, confirming it will use the Chennai factory for export purposes.

Anil Arora jumped from his apartment building in Bandra, Mumbai, around 9 a.m. Malaika Arora, who was in Pune, was seen arriving at her Mumbai home. On Wednesday, September 4, the Himachal Pradesh Assembly approved a new law to stop MLAs (Members of the Legislative Assembly) from switching parties by taking away their pensions. The law, called the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (Allowances and Pension of Members) Amendment Bill 2024, was introduced by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

According to this law, if an MLA is disqualified under the anti-defection rule (which is in the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution), they will lose their right to get a pension. The law also allows the government to take back any pension that has already been given to these disqualified MLAs, as per reported by The Indian Express.

Border infrastructure projects are a high priority, with construction of the third route to Leh progressing rapidly.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is set to finish certain infrastructure tasks along the China border in the coming weeks. These include sections of an alternate route to Leh, aimed at ensuring all-weather access.

Additionally, the organisation, operating under the Union Ministry of Defence, has given priority to specific projects under the India-China Border Roads initiative and aims to complete full connectivity to the Lipulekh Pass on the Mansarovar Yatra Road in Uttarakhand, according to sources from The Indian Express.
Currently, there are three routes to access Leh. The first route is through Srinagar, Zoji La, and Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir.

The second route passes through Manali and Rohtang in Himachal Pradesh. This road diverges at a location called Darcha, with one path leading to Leh via Padam and Nimu, while the other crosses the mountain passes of Baralacha La in Himachal Pradesh and Tanglang La in Ladakh, before reaching Leh via Karu.

Currently, neither of these routes to Leh offers all-weather connectivity.

Major Glacial Lake Assessments in Arunachal, Sikkim Regions Near China Border

As part of a national initiative to anticipate Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF), the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has begun mapping glacial lakes in the Eastern Himalayas. This effort aims to evaluate the possibility of installing early warning systems and other preventive measures. The agency is currently surveying Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, two critical regions in the Eastern Himalayas near the China border.

Specialized teams have been deployed to conduct a survey and study of six high-risk glacial lakes in the Tawang and Dibang Valley districts of Arunachal Pradesh, which shares a 1,080 km-long boundary with China. Reports indicate that over five bridges have been washed away due to a glacial lake outburst from Sangnga Nehgu Lake in the Tawang district. This marks the first-ever survey of glacial lakes in this border state.

Rain Disrupts Long Weekend Getaways

During the extended Janmashtami weekend, many travelers opted to either fly or drive to their favorite destinations. Although travel arrangements were generally smooth for most, rain caused significant disruptions for those returning to Ahmedabad on Monday. Heavy rainfall led to severe traffic jams and considerable delays for travelers arriving by both road and air.

For example, Kritika Ranpara, a makeup artist from Ahmedabad, had gone to Udaipur with her family and friends for a short getaway. “We started our return journey around 6:30 PM from Udaipur. We were three families traveling in three cars. Everything was fine until we reached the border. Once we hit Shyamalaji, the road conditions deteriorated due to heavy rain. To make matters worse, one of the cars broke down, and it took us two hours to get assistance,” she explained.

The families arrived in Ahmedabad between 1:30 AM and 3:30 AM on Tuesday due to the adverse weather and poor road conditions.

The investigation into the discovery of a three-year-old girl's body inside a suitcase in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, has directed the police to her mother. The suspect, Kajal, has been apprehended and has confessed to the police that she was involved in an extramarital affair and wanted to separate from her husband. However, her partner did not want her daughter to accompany them. Consequently, she slit the child's throat, placed the body in a suitcase, and discarded it in a bush.

The woman has also informed the police that she plotted her daughter's killing after viewing the well-known TV series Crime Patrol.

The remains of three-year-old Misti were found in a red trolley bag in a residential area of Muzaffarpur's Minapur on Saturday. The discovery of the child's body stunned the community, prompting the police to establish a Special Investigation Team to investigate the crime.

Maharashtra Bandh update: MVA calls off today’s bandh, plans peaceful protest; transport services to remain unaffected

In a recent development, the Maharashtra Bandh planned for 24th August has been canceled by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) after a directive from the Bombay High Court. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray announced the cancellation, stating that while they will not proceed with the bandh, they will continue their protest by wearing black armbands. He also expressed disagreement with the court’s verdict.

Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole stated that MVA leaders will now stage protests with black flags and bands from 11 am to noon on 24th August.

The latest Citroen C3 comes equipped with upgraded active and passive safety features, new premium enhancements, and a newly introduced automatic transmission.
The Citroen C3's latest safety upgrades include six airbags and 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all seats. Previously, the car was already equipped with ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

Delhi is expected to experience significant transport disruptions due to a two-day strike by auto and taxi driver unions on August 22 and 23. The strike, organized by more than 15 unions from the Delhi-NCR area, is a protest against app-based ride services like Ola and Uber. The unions argue that these services are drastically impacting their income and livelihood.
The unions have voiced growing frustration over the government's inability to address their concerns, despite multiple appeals regarding insufficient compensation.
The strike is anticipated to create considerable disruption for commuters, as auto-rickshaws, black-and-yellow taxis, budget radio taxis, and all-India tourist permit taxis will be off the roads. The unions have demanded a total suspension of auto and taxi services in Delhi NCR for the duration of the two-day protest.

Alongside the strike, the unions are calling for a ban on current app-based cab services and are pushing for the launch of a government-supported ride-hailing app. They contend that companies like Ola and Uber impose up to 45 percent commission on rides, resulting in minimal earnings for drivers. Verma also pointed out the increasing number of e-rickshaws and privately registered bikes on the roads, which are further affecting their income.
