According to researchers, Uttarakhand is the most disaster prone state of India. The State of Environment report 2024 concludes that disasters in the Himalayan region have increased 4 times since 1990.

Every consecutive year, we witness a series of natural disasters in the entire Himalayan belt leading to several loss of lives. Climate change is for real & mountain people can clearly see that. Pollution is on the rise in the Himalayas, weather patterns have changed, forest covers are depleted & the glaciers are melting.

The mountain people of the Rung community residing in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand are worried about the negative impact of fast paced development projects, mass tourism, poor waste management & Helicopter Yatras in the higher Himalayas.

Multiple Memorandums & talks with the Government has led to no positive outcome. The locals feel helpless as their voices aren't being heard by the officials. Some private organisations in collaboration with the government & tourism department are conducting Helicopter Yatras in the Adi Kailash region claiming that it will increase employment opportunities for the locals but the entire local community has a completely different opinion & are strongly opposing this unsustainable development model & are willing to Boycott Lok Sabha elections if the current government doesn't change its course in due time

The government openly declares & claims in national newspapers & media that their development projects like Swadesh Darshan 2.0 is indeed for the development of the Himalayas & its inhabitants. But, the locals are worried & have a completely different perspective. They've been submitting multiple memorandums to the SDM Dharchula stating their needs in line with sustainable development measures but there has been no positive response from the centre. Listen to "Mann ki Baat" of the people ji 🙏 if you really wish India to grow.
