📌 Akasa Air adds Port Blair to its network

The Indian airline Akasa Air strengthens its connectivity by adding Port Blair to its expanding network. The airline will operate daily flights between Bengaluru and Port Blair via Chennai (no aircraft change), starting December 15, 2023, using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

On 8 February 1872, Lord Mayo, the then Viceroy of India, reached the Andaman settlement for inspection.

The same afternoon, he went to visit Mount Harriet, where an Indian, Sher Ali, was waiting for him with a kitchen knife. He caught Mayo and his security unaware and stabbed him twice.

The Viceroy died instantly and Sher Ali was hanged for executing the highest assassination in colonial India. Sher Ali did not offer any defence during the court trial. Instead, he told the court, "God, not the British Government, will do justice". He was hanged at Viper Island on 11 March 1872.

COVID ORDER MODIFIED

In view of the recent increase in the number of COVID-19 cases including detection of Omicron variant cases in Andaman & Nicobar Islands and in order to effectively manage the challenge arising out of the same, in suppression of the earlier circulars on this subject, the following has been decided by Andaman & Nicobar Administration in public health interest:

1. All incoming passengers above 02 years of age including partially and
fully vaccinated arriving at VS Airport, Port Blair from 05th January,
2022 onwards shall have to mandatorily carry RT-PCR negative test
report issued from a ICMR recognized laboratory, subject to condition
that the RT-PCR test should have been taken within 48 hours prior to
commencement of journey from the origin airport connecting Port Blair.

2. Further, all passengers with history of foreign travel in the last 30 days,
all un-vaccinated and partially vaccinated passengers shall also be tested
by RT-PCR on arrival at VS Airport, Port Blair and they have to strictly
self isolate themselves till the receipt of negative RT-PCR report.
3. If passenger on arrival is tested positive then, the prescribed quarantine
protocol is to be followed.

compliance will invite action under Disaster Management Act and other

The Cellular Jail, also known as Kālā Pānī (Hindi for black waters), was a colonial prison in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. The prison was used by the British for the express purpose of exiling political prisoners to the remote archipelago. Many notable independence activists, including Batukeshwar Dutt, Yogendra Shukla,V.O. Chidambaram Pillai and Vinayak Savarkar were imprisoned here during the struggle for India's independence. Today, the complex serves as a national memorial monument.
