WILD DAJIPUR - The Land of Gaur
Western Ghats or Sahyadri is one of the most important and world famous region for tremendous diversity in plants and animals. Four important biodiversity rich forests of this ghats is declared as ‘World Heritage Site’ by UNESCO. Out of these ‘Radhanagari-Dajipur Wildlife Sanctuary’ is first notable Wildlife Sanctuary of Maharashtra. Since the forest is untouched and very rich in animal diversity this jungle is also known as ‘Land of Gaur’.
The undulating terrain covers lush green forest, steep escarpments and lateritic plateaus or ‘Sadas’. Dajipur is located at about 455 km from Mumbai, 300 km from Pune and 80 km from Kolhapur. Dajipur offers you the most amazing experience of Jungle Safari through the thick evergreen forest and blue-green backwaters of the Radhanagari dam or Laxmi Sagar.
This jungle is a spread of 351.16 sq. km. and lies between 16˚ 40′ 00.38′′ E latitude and 073˚ 85′ 00.76′′ N longitude at a height of 3800 ft. from mean sea level (m.s.l.). The 21 km Safarai takes you through dense evergreen vegetation that covers Waghache Pani, Sambar Kond, Kokan Darshan, Sawar Sada, etc.
Dajipur jungle harbors unique trees, rare climbers and wildlife diversity which includes Blue Mormon (Butterfly of Maharashtra & second largest butterfly in Western Ghats), Indian Gaur, Malabar Pied Hornbill and much more.
