Surkanda Devi temple, Uttarakhand

Surkanda Devi temple is a famous shrine located near Kaddukhal, 24 kms from the town of Chamba and 40kms from Mussoorie.

This temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peeth located all over Indian subcontinent and is dedicated to Goddess Surkanda a manifestation of feminine divine. Badami Caves -
The Badami cave temples are a complex of Hindu and Jain cave temples located in Badami, a town in the Bagalkot district in northern part of Karnataka, India.

These caves are carved into the red sandstone cliffs and look absolutely amazing. These timeless marvels showcase the intricate craftsmanship of the Chalukya dynasty.

Pattadakal -

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a testament to the richness of Chalukyan architecture during the 7th and 8th centuries and is renowned for its intricately chiselled temples. The temples in Pattadakal bear testimony to the richness and timeless splendour of the Chalukyan architecture. It has a cluster of 10 major temples, which showcase some striking architectural features.

Aihole -
Heralded as the ‘cradle of Hindu/ Dravidian temple architecture’, Aihole is a tranquil village on the banks of Malaprabha River. Hundreds of temples pepper the villages and fields nearby. The most noteworthy among them is the Durga Temple composed of a semicircular apse, an elevated plinth and a gallery encircling the sanctum.

Virupaksha Temple, Hampi -

Virupaksha Temple is the 7th century Shiva temple in Hampi, Central Karnataka. Hampi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lord Virupaksha, also referred to as Pampapathi is the main deity in Virupaksha Temple.

The main tower, on the east is an imposing structure, 9 stories, 50 meters tall, built in the fifteenth century. Eastern tower forms the main entrance to Virupaksha Temple. Eastern tower has extensive craftsmanship on each of its floors featuring hundreds of Hindu gods and goddesses.

The Virupaksha temple is built in the South Indian temple architecture, also called the Dravida Style. The compound of Virupaksha Temple is encircled by three gopuras or towers.

Queen's Bath -
The Queen’s Bath is believed to be constructed by Achyuta Raya for the women of the royal family of Vijayanagara. Though named as the Queen’s Bath, it was in all probability used as the private bathing chamber of the king and his queens.

Lotus Mahal -
It is one of the fine architectural designed palaces that are uniquely identified by its lotus look like structure. The balcony and the passages covered with a dome that looks like an opened lotus bud. The central dome is also carved as a lotus bud.

Elephant's Stable -
The Elephant Stable in Hampi is an impressive structure that was used to provide shelter for the royal elephants of the Vijayanagara Empire.

Royal Enclosure -
The royal enclosure in Hampi was the Vijayanagara kingdom’s seat of power. In its prime, it housed as many as 45 buildings including the durbar halls, platform, tanks, underground chambers, and temples.

Stepwell-
Discovered in 1985, the stepped tank is considered one of the most well-preserved structures in the Royal Enclosure. This is a 5 tiered tank that covers an area of 22 square meters and has a depth of 7 meters.

Hazare Rama Temple -
This is the only temple in the Royal Enclosure. As the name suggests, the temple is dedicated to Lord Rama. Bas relics on the walls of the temple depict the Ramayana and are considered the most extensive relics from all over India.

Vitthala Temple Hampi -

As the epicenter of Hampi's attractions, Vittala Temple is the most extravagant architectural showpiece of Hampi.The temple was originally built in the 15th century AD during the reign of King Devaraya II (1422- 1446 A.D.) of the Vijayanagara Empire.

The Vittala Temple is dedicated to Lord Vitthala, an avatar of Lord Vishnu.

The highlight of Vittala temple is its impressive pillared halls and the stone chariot. The halls are carved with an overwhelming array of sculptures on the giant granite pillars.
