कळपाने राहणारा हा पक्षी ' गाणारा पक्षी ' म्हणूनही ओळखला जातो. गाण्याच्या माध्यमातूनच हे पक्षी इतरांशी संवाद साधतात.
वाळलेले गवत, पाने, पिसे इत्यादींपासून तो आपले घरटे बनवतो. एखाद्या वाटी किंवा टोपल्याच्या आकाराचे ह्याचे घरटे असते. मादा पक्षी एका वेळेस ४-६ अंडी घालते आणि पिल्ले १४ दिवसांनी बाहेर येतात.

The goldfinch is a highly coloured finch with a bright red face and yellow wing patch. Sociable, often breeding in loose colonies, they have a delightful liquid twittering song and call. Their long fine beaks allow them to extract otherwise inaccessible seeds from thistles and teasels.

पावसाळ्या मुळे भरपूर किडे जन्म घेतात किंवा मोठ्या झोपेतून उठतात, म्हणजेच सर्वांसाठी भरपूर खाणे तयार असते. म्हणूनच सर्व कीटक प्रजनन ह्याच काळात करतात आणि स्वतःची पुढची पिढी निर्माण करतात.
असाच एक किडा आणि किडी आमच्या बागेत मला दिसली. त्याचीच माहिती मी आज घेणार आहे. त्याचे नाव आहे Indian Wasp Moth किंवा गंधोली पतंग.
विषारी सुरवंट असावा असा आभास निर्माण करणारा हा कीटक खरंतर पतंग आहे आणि पूर्णपणे निरुपद्रवी आहे.

Binomial name : Amata Passalis
English name : Indian Wasp Moth.
Amata Passalis is a day flying moth in the superfamily Actiinae of tiger
moths and woolly bears. It is the smallest species in its genus. It can be found from the Indo Australian tropics to northern Australia, yet little is known about its ecology and life cycle.
Amata passalis copulates, as most other moths, facing opposite directions with posterior ends of abdomen meeting 5 as in the video below. Wings are held horizontally which is common among Amata species 5 . In most cases the females head will be pointing upward (to the sky) during copulation,
Amata Huebneri is very close relative of this species found in South East Asia.

कंबरमोडी
Tridax procumbens

ही एक सूर्यफूलकुळातली लहान वनस्पती आहे. ही मुरुमाड प्रदेशात जास्त उगवते. भारतात शेतांमध्ये, माळरानावर, डांबरी रस्त्याच्या कडेला, घरा भोवती जमिनीवर उगवणारे हे एक तण आहे. मराठीत या झुडपाला एकदांडी किंवा कंबरमोडी किंवा दगडी पाला म्हणतात आणि याच्या फुलाला बंदुकीचे फूल म्हणतात. या वनस्पतीच्या पानात आयोडीन असावे.पायास ठेच लागल्यास वा कोणत्याही प्रकारे जखम झाली असता, या वनस्पतीच्या पानाचा रस काढून त्यावर टाकतात.त्याने जखमेचे निर्जंतुकीकरण होते व ती पिकत नाही; जखमेस खपली धरते. तोंड आले असताही या वनस्पतीच्या पानांच्या रसाचा उपयोग होतो.

ही जमिनीपासून साधारण फूटभर वाढणारी वनस्पती आहे. कंबरमोडी ही वेलासारखी भुईसपाट पसरत जाणारी वनस्पती असून अतिशय नाजूक असते. हिला थोडाही धक्का लागला तर ती कुठूनही तुटते.वनस्पतीच्या पानांपासून देठ वेगळा होऊन तो उंच वाढतो.पोपटी-हिरव्या रंगाच्या या देठाला बिनवासाचे एक फूल लागते. काही दिवस फूल राहिल्यावर ते वाळते आणि तेथे गडद काळ्या-तपकिरी रंगाच्या बिया उरतात. या बिया हवेच्या झोतासह सर्वत्र पसरतात. ही वनस्पती कमी पाण्याच्या भागांत, मोकळ्या माळरानांत, शेतीच्या जवळच्या भागांत भरभर वाढणारी, दुर्लक्षित वनस्पती आहे.
