Thanks Amit Paranjape for the details:
Wednesday (July 6) marked the beginning of the centenary year of the historic Bhandarkar Institute in Pune. Do check out their website to get an overview of the great work being done here.
Here is a good overview article: http://www.punemirror.in/…/Scripti…/articleshow/53086603.cms
"The Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (BORI) had been established in the honour of Dr Ramkrishna Gopal Bhandarkar — regarded as the founder of orientalism — by his students back in 1917 on his eightieth birthday. "On the foundation day, he had gifted around 2,200 of his rare books to the institute, which then took up various projects in the field," registrar Dr Shreenand Bapat shared the story of BORI's modest beginnings."
"...on Wednesday, BORI's centenary celebrations chalked out grand plans for its future — a new museum on the Indian culture and way of living, which will have an investment of around Rs 100 crore. "We will showcase what kind of food we had in the past and what was procured from other parts of the world. The Sanskrit documentation on how to cultivate red-coloured cotton and other wonders will find pride of place in this museum. We also have an old press building, where we will be making an acoustic auditorium with seating for around 100 to 125 people," said trustee Rahul Solapurkar."
A vanguard in documenting history, Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute has put Pune on the global map. As it celebrates 100 years of preserving the past, Pune Mirror chronicles rare gems from its collection
