Wildlife Wednesday đżâ¨
Say hello to one of the most dazzling little birds in our forests â the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher.
Only about 13 cm in size, but donât let that fool you. This bird is pure colour therapy â with a bright orange beak, electric blue wings, and a splash of yellow on the belly. It looks like a flying rainbow, especially when it darts through dense forest patches near streams and rivers.
Found mainly in the Western Ghats during the monsoon, this tiny kingfisher is notoriously shy and fast. You usually hear the sharp "tik-tik" call before you ever spot it â and if you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse as it zips by like a streak of light.
It nests in mud burrows, hunts for small frogs and insects, and prefers the quiet, undisturbed corners of the forest. A real reminder that some of the most beautiful things in nature donât demand attention â they quietly exist, waiting to be discovered.
