Nagarahole is derived its name from Naga, means snake and Hole refers to as streams. The park is also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park located in Kodagu and Mysore District. Kannada is the local language around the National park
Nagarahole Park is declared as thirty seventh Tiger Reserve in India. It is also considered as World Heritage site by UNESCO. Three of the park namely Bandipur, Mudumalai & Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary are adjacent to the Nagarahole
Bengal Tiger, Indian Leopard, Sloth Bear, Striped Hyena are the predators that can be spotted in the park.
Herbivores like Elephants, Chital, Sambar Deer, and Barking Deer is also spotted around the national park.
Nagarahole is named after Nagarahole (Cobra river in the local language, Kannada), a winding river which runs eastwards through its centre. Situated in the two districts of Mysore and Kodagu in the state of Karnataka.
It was originally constituted into a sanctuary in the year 1955 covering an area of 258 sq. kms and subsequently enlarged to include the adjoining areas of Mysore district and now extends over an area of 643.39 sq. kms which was given the status of a National Park in 1983.
Nagarahole National Park forms apart of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and together with Bandipur National Park (875 sq. kms) and Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary (325 sq. kms) to its South East and Wayanad (350 sq. kms) to the South-West, is one of the last remaining and best protected habitats for endangered species like the Elephant and the Tiger.

Nagarhole National Park – Where the Wild Resides
Nagarhole National Park also knows as Rajiv Gandhi National Park is located in the two districts of Karnataka, namely Mysore and Kodagu. Nagarhole a combination of two Kannada words ‘Nagara’ signifying ‘Cobra’ and ‘Hole’ signifying ‘River’, justifies its name completely as several streams serpentine through the rich tropical forest of this national park.

By Air
The closest airport to the national park is in Mysore at a distance of 96 kms. The nearest international airport is located in Bangalore, which is at a distance of 236 kms. One can reach Bangalore from all the major cities across India. It is well connected with several international cities as well.
By Rail
Mysore Railway Station located 80 kms away from Nagarhole National Park is the nearest railway station. The nearest railway head is located in Bangalore at a distance of 220 kms. Bangalore is well connected with all the major cities across India. And one can take either a taxi or bus to reach the national park from here.
By Road
The sanctuary is located at a distance of 96 kms from Mysore city, 93 kms from Madikeri and 236 kms from Bangalore city.
