Stunning Sangti Valley greeted us with the customary Arunachali rainfall, with the showers stopping on cue as soon as we rolled into the parking area for the day ๐ง๏ธ๐ซก
A superbly quaint little town, the group was given a real experience of the North-East not covered in your everyday itinerary! Close to zero cellular network meant dinner was better than ever, with no smartphones to take away anyoneโs attention ๐

We began the return leg from Tawang with a quick stop at the fantastic Nuranang Falls in Jang - truly a sight for sore eyes on a beautiful sunny day! ๐คฉ
Shortly after, the group rode through the relatively recently constructed Sela Tunnel, made to keep the axis open through most of the year, before beginning our descent to Dirang and beyond! ๐๏ธ

More hard yards covered as we made our way to the iconic Sangestar Lake en route to Bumla during the Northeast Adventure ๐๏ธ
Shortly after the famous lake, the on and off road groups re-convened and rode together to the pass, enjoying the show put on by the military personnel at our boundary with China on this axis! ๐ซก
After thanking them for their service, we made our way down the tarmac in pelting rain to Tawang, our halt for the night ๐

The group was split into two, with some of the bikes not suitable for the off-road sections - both groups would converge further up the road and make a combined ascent towards the pass later in the day!

Our first stop on Day 2 of the Northeast Adventure was the Memorial for the fallen heroes during the Battle of Nyukmadung (1962) ๐
The weather was on our side and we made a small stop to pay our respects before carrying on towards Sela Pass ๐๏ธ

Having reached Dirang after dark the previous evening, the group took advantage of the early sunrise in the region to enjoy the stunning views before departing for Tawang! โฐ๏ธ
The customary rider briefing followed as the day promised to be challenging - we would be crossing Sela Pass later on (but more on that ๐) - and before long the riders were on their way!

Camping under the night sky is part and parcel of the experience at the ๐๏ธ๐๏ธ
The team will have to pitch their own tents and set out their bedding after every dayโs riding at the Trophy, so we decided it would be best to give them a taste of the experience in the dunes around Sam! ๐๏ธ
Delicious dinner under the stars before the team headed back to our camp leaving Team India to spend the night under the watchful eye of the elements and of course! ๐
Thereโs no substitute to teamwork at the ๐ฆพ๐๏ธ
Though riders will be covering hundreds of kilometres daily at the Trophy, the unique tests is where theyโll be scored and ultimately ranked in the competition ๐
Keeping this in mind, we put the team through some of the famous tests theyโre likely to face during the upcoming competition - all the way from pulling our stacked Fortuner using a tow strap, the (in)famous BMW slow race, guiding a blindfolded teammate through a course of cones using their devices and many more!
Team India will have to expect the unexpected at the event and will have to rely on one another to make it through with the highest possible scores, but we were glad to see the bond between the riders strengthen all the way through the training program!

Lots of trails and progress as the group began to get the hang of riding through the unpredictable terrain ๐๏ธ
An early start to what was initially an extremely humbling day for the riders as we introduced them to deep sand for the first time! ๐๏ธ
The power and weight of the GS would have to be used smartly to ensure that the riders wouldnโt bog down in the deeper stuff. Lessons were learned and the application of the same was superb - soon all the boys were making a good fist of their battle against this foreign terrain, coupled with the heat that only the desert can bring! ๐๏ธ

We had the pleasure of training Team India for the upcoming edition of the BMW GS Trophy to be held in Namibia later this year, and what better place to put them through their paces than the sand of the Thar Desert! ๐๏ธ๐ฎ๐ณ

The Jimny passed the Ice Kross test with flying colours! Adept in every kind of terrain, super convenient and manoeuvrable on narrow trails, and comfortably making its way through whatever Spiti threw at it! โ๏ธ

The fifth edition of the @indiatriumph Adventure Trails - Rajasthan took place in early January this year. The event has become an annual figure in the @xplorearth.shimla ride calendar and we always look forward to training riders on how to take on sand - a surface new to most who participate!!! Day 1 and 2 of the ride took the group from Mandawa to Bikaner and further onto Sam, with a mixture of tarmac, dirt and sand being tackled along the way! Started in 1999 as a salve to 3 motorsport junkies whose desire to wander aimlessly, albeit at ridiculously high speeds across the Himalayan landscape, led them to fire up an idea that gave birth to the now quite famous Rallye Raid de Himalaya - a cross country rally that runs 2000 kms across the Western Himalaya just as winter is tightening its death grip on the mountains.
This annual pilgrimage of masochists, armed to the teeth with outdated equipment and dubious 4x4โs will attempt to beat icy roads, frozen riverbeds and the highest mountain passes in the world in an attempt to win the โWorldโs Highest Rallyโ !
The more mentally unsettled amongst this band of merry men and women will go that extra mile and take up cudgels with the mountains on motorcycles ! Only 20% will survive the ordeal - the others dropping like flies - their machines afflicted with metal fatigue and the humans subject to the tortures meted out by unrelenting cold (minus 22 celsius), oxygen starvation ( 30 percent as compared to sea level) and the joys of sleep deprivation which combine to make a deadly, energy sapping cocktail.
